Kate Manuel

IT WAS my pleasure to present the 5th Annual CARL Research Award and $1,000 to Kate Manuel of CSU, Hayward at the CARL Annual Conference on October 7, 2000 at the Long Beach Hilton Hotel.
Ms. Manuel's research proposal is entitled, "E-prints and Letters Journals:  Continuing Co-Communicators of Scientific Research?"  Her research will take the form of a bibliometric survey comparing the activities of those publishing in letters journals and those publishing in e-print archives.  One of her objectives includes determining whether e-prints are transforming the traditional progression of scholarly information from technical reports to conference proceedings to journal publication to monographs, and finally to review articles.
Ms. Manuel will be sharing the results of this research via the CARL Newsletter and the CARL Web site.
The following individuals are acknowledged for their contributions as members of the 2000 CARL Research Award Committee, and for their work in reviewing submitted proposals this year:

Marianne Affifi, Chair
University of Southern California

Les Kong
California State University, San Bernardino

Bonnie Gratch Lindauer
City College of San Francisco

Mark Stover
San Diego State University

Dawn Talbot
University of California, San Diego
Three proposals were reviewed by the Committee, in a blind review, with all names and local references deleted.  Congratulations to Ms. Manuel, and thank you to the other applicants who submitted proposals.
