Marianne Afifi & Lucy Siefert Wegner

Marianne Afifi accepts the award from Sandy Vella.

IT WAS my pleasure to present the 2nd annual CARL Research Award and $1,000 to the project "Success Factors for Technology Management In California Academic Libraries."  This project was designed by Lucy Siefert Wegner and Marianne Afifi from the University of Southern California.
The successful proposal, one of eight proposals reviewed by the Research Committee, will review systems departments in California libraries with the goal of identifying successful practices, procedures, and organizational models.  The information collected will be shared with the profession through the development of guidelines, workshops, articles and a book.  I also encouage the researchers to provide updates to the CARL membership through the CARL Newsletter and CARL website.
I would like to commend the CARL Research Committee for their diligent and thoughtful efforts.  The Committee consisted of Committee Chair Peter Brueggeman, Scripps Institute of Oceanography Library, UCSD, Inez Cohen, City College of San Francisco and Irene Hoffman, Robert E. Kennedy Library, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. The Committee conducted a blind review (all references to authors were eliminated from the documentation being reviewed)of the proposals, followed by a recommendation to the CARL Executive Board.  The Executive Board approved the selection.
Congratulations to the successful candidates, a thank you to all who provided proposals and to the Research Committee for a job well done.
