CSU Librarians-South
Meeting
October
26, 2001, at 3pm, Online Virtual Chat meeting
Meeting chaired
by Barbara Quarton
Present:
Scott Breivold (Los Angeles), Cynthia Bruns (Fullerton), Judith
Downie (San Marcos), Kelly Jarousek (Long Beach), Rosemary McGill
(Fullerton), Barbara Quarton (San Bernardino), Andrew Shroyer (Los
Angeles), Eileen Wakiji (Long Beach).
1. ListServe
Discussion of CSUF-South joining with the CSUL-North list serve
to create a combined listserve. It was asked how CSUL-North felt
about CSUL-South joining with them. Barbara Quarton stated that
they would welcome it. It was felt that it would give us wider coverage
and some contact with CSUL-North. Judith Downie suggested that if
the message is for the South only, you should note SOUTH in the
subject line. It was decided that CSUL-South will join with the
CSUL-North listserve. Announcement will be made in the CARL newsletter
inviting interested people to sign-up.
2. CARL pre-Conference
2002
Barbara Quarton is the official contact person for
the pre-conference and will be moderating. Andrew Shroyer is planning
a presentation in regards to a serial weeding project experience.
Scott Breivold will talk about media "collection refinement."
The two presentations will be separate but in the same block of
time and juxtaposed closely. Barbara Quarton would like summaries
from the presenters by November 21. Kelly Janousek has volunteered
Long Beach to do a session the general collection. Hayward will
also be presenting. Each session will be about forty minutes and
will include time for a question and answer period.
3. Waiver
of SJSU-SLIS fees for CSU staff
Barbara Quarton had contact
Gordon Smith at the Chancellors office in an effort to present
CSUL-Souths opinion that CSU staff should receive reduced
or waived fees. Gordon Smith replied that the Chancellors
office has considered this issue and will contact CSUL-South "When
the opportunity arises for your participation and support."
It was agreed that this group would not pursue scholarships or fee
waivers at this time.
4. "Shadow"
Program between SLIS students and CSU librarians
This
would be a program where Library students are invited by a CSU library
to visit for the day, "shadowing" a librarian to give
them experience of a real workday. It is suggested that everyone
consider guidelines for this program and possibly come up with a
new name. Any ideas should be forwarded to Barbara Quarton. Kelly
Janousek will contact UCLA and Cynthia Bruns will contact SJSU at
Fullerton to get their initial reaction.
5. Another
General Chat
The topic for the general chat will be weeding.
The date for the chat will be February 14 and we will send out a
CARLALL reminder a few days ahead of time. Andrew Shroyer volunteered
to send in an announcement to the CARL newsletter. The deadline
for the newsletter is November 14. Scott Breivold will look into
setting the session up as "open enrollment so that we
dont need everyones name ahead of time.
