This is one of the largest comprehensive research collections documenting every aspect of world’s fairs and how they have reflected and influenced the modern world. Fairs held in North America, the U.K. and Western Europe are well represented. The collection includes books, pamphlets, letters, postcards, photographs, and sheet music, with an emphasis on official reports and promotional publications.

Topolobampo Collection.

The records of the Credit Foncier of Sinaloa Company and its failed utopian colony at Topolobampo Bay in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico in the late 19th century and the business records and personal papers of the colony’s founder Albert Kimsey Owen comprise the major part of this collection. The photograph collection depicts the social and economic aspects of the colonists’ lives and the development of the colony in Mexico.

Enology and Viticulture Collection.

The purchase of the personal collection of Roy Brady, a well-known wine journalist, marked the beginnings of this collection in 1968. Its focus is on the history and development of wine making, the wine industry, and viticulture, with an emphasis on pre-1940 materials. Today there are approximately 4,000 items in the collection, including rare and valuable works in many languages and covering all areas of the world where grapes are grown.

Arne Nixon Center for the Study of Children’s Literature.

This is one of the largest research centers for the study of children’s literature on the West Coast. The collection includes over 25,000 books, many of which are autographed first editions, original art works, letters, photographs, newspaper clippings, ceramic plates and other realia. Although this is a comprehensive collection, there is a multicultural emphasis ranging from picture books for babies to novels for teens. The Center actively hosts various events and publishes a newsletter.

Central Valley Political Archive.

Established in late 2000, this archive documents 20th century political life in the San Joaquin valley. It includes the papers of Kenneth L. Maddy, Charles (Chip) Pashayan, Jr., and Bernie F. Sisk as well as other political leaders and public officials The various bills, newspaper clippings, correspondence, speeches, etc. highlight topics such as agriculture, water rights, bipartisanship politics, the emerging presence of Mexican Americans in political life, and the contribution of Armenian Americans.
