Southern California Instruction Librarians (SCIL)

The Southern California Instruction Librarians (SCIL -- pronounced "skill") interest group is dedicated to providing professional development and discussion opportunities focused on information literacy and instruction-related activities for library professionals from all types of institutions.

SCIL hosts two professional development events each year. The goal for all SCIL events is to offer real-world, pragmatic learning opportunities.

SCIL Works (offered in January or early February) is a half-day mini conference that highlights the work of area professionals centered around a new theme each year.

Spring Program (offered in April or May) is a full-day event that engages participants in a discussion/workshop centered on a topic of interest.

For examples of previous SCIL Works and Spring Program events, visit the SCIL Events/Reports page.

In addition to providing relevant professional development opportunities, SCIL has been honored to host large-scale events including the regional ACRL/IIL Immersion Program in July 2004 and LOEX in May 2007.

SCIL business meetings are held approximately every six weeks. Interested individuals are invited to attend. For more information about SCIL and to find out about upcoming events or meetings, visit the SCIL web site.
