December minutes were approved electronically and Duffy Tweedy posted them to the website.
IV. Continuing Business
A. New SCIL Publicist
Dominique Turnbow has been appointed to the position of SCIL Publicist. Debbi Renfrow was thanked for her service as Publicist over the past few years.
B. SCIL Works 2006 Update
SCIL Works 2006 will have three presentations, a change from the four presentations offered at past SCIL Works. Each presenter will present twice. Discussion followed a suggestion by Dominique Turnbow to survey attendees about their preference for the new or previous format. The suggested survey question will be incorporated into the usual feedback form used to assess attendees' satisfaction.
CSU Parking Permits will be honored at CSU San Marcos for SCIL Works Attendees.
Gabriella Sontag provided a list of restaurants near CSU San Marcos and this list is posted on the SCIL Website.
Nancy Getty announced that there were 42 registrants for SCIL Works as of 1/12/06. Registration is capped at 65. Registration must be post marked by January 20, 2006.
Debbi Renfrow volunteered to assist with check-in at the door on the day of SCIL Works, February 3, 2006.
Chisa Uyeki will update the SCIL poster as well as the SCIL Information Handout to increase attendees' awareness of recent and upcoming SCIL activities.
Discussion followed a suggestion by Judy Lee to provide CARL application forms at SCIL Works. Attendees could become CARL members and the forms could be marked with SCIL to increase awareness of SCIL's impact on CARL's membership. The CARL application forms with SCIL insignia will be made available at SCIL Works.
C. CARL 2006 SCIL/CCLI Pre-conference Update
The speaker originally scheduled from WASC will be unable to take part in the SCIL/CCLI Pre-Conference. Amy Wallace is working with WASC to arrange another speaker with similar experience or training with the current accreditation standards for community colleges. CARL is providing funds to cover some of the WASC speaker's expenses.
The panel for the SCIL/CCLI Pre-Conference will include: Val Ontell (San Diego Mesa College), Tom Carter (St. Mary's College), Gloria Rhodes (SDSU), and Emily Woolery (tentative, Mt. San Antonio College). Amy Wallace is developing questions the panel can use to prepare for the discussion. The panel will focus on how libraries are contributing to their institutions' educational effectiveness not only through instruction programs, but other means as well.
D. LOEX 2007 Theme and Planning
- CARL Sponsorship
Due to Melanie Remy's efforts on behalf of SCIL, CARL is providing sponsorship funds of $1800 to be used for speaker honoraria. Deb Moore will contact Theresa Valko, the LOEX director, regarding what part of the speaker expenses SCIL pays and what part are paid by LOEX.- Timeline and Coordinators' Areas of Responsibility
The timeline provided by Melanie Remy reflects the recommendations from LOEX as well as advice from the UW Madison team who held LOEX 2003. Duffy Tweedy can post the timeline with early dates highlighted as targets on the SCIL projects website. Contact Melanie Remy with any additions or changes to the timeline, including announcements of completed items.
Deb Moore will email Theresa Valko with contact and introductory information for the Coordinators: Tracey Mayfield/Communication, Duffy Tweedy/Facilities, Amy Wallace/Program. After these introductions, Theresa Valko's primary contact will be Duffy Tweedy.
Tracey Mayfield will contact Theresa Valko regarding SCIL's role in the Minority Scholarship offered for LOEX.
Amy Wallace suggested that planning take place so that all proposal review will be possible on-line.
Each Coordinator will be responsible for mustering his or her group of volunteers. Katy Farrell encouraged communication among the Coordinators so that volunteers are not stretched thin by serving on all three committees. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact the appropriate Coordinator directly.- LOEX Website Manager
A manager for the LOEX website needs to be identified. Coordination of the website will be the shared responsibility of Tracey Mayfield and Duffy Tweedy and they can determine the best way to oversee the project. Content will be developed by the appropriate committee.- Theme
The deadline for the LOEX theme is May 2006. Amy Wallace will send out an email to SCIL announcing our proposed theme ÒUncharted WatersÓ and the paragraph of sub-themes she drafted.E. New SCIL Logo
Attendees at the SCIL meeting agreed on a design including a blue or white background and a wave. Free registration will be offered to all of the people who submitted logos for consideration.
F. Spring Program Planning Update
Jeff Liles will offer a presentation about Assessment in One-Shot Library Instruction on May 19, 2006. Possible sites include: CSULB, Azusa Pacific, Cal Poly Pamona. The SCIL steering committee will determine the registration fee when more information about possible costs is available. Judy Lee suggested having the CARL Southern Regional Vice President, Tracey Mayfield, consulted regarding getting the honorarium paid to Jeff Liles.
G. CARL IG Coordinator Report for Sept. Ð Dec. 2005
Under Judy Lee's direction as the CARL Interest Group Coordinator, quarterly reports from the CARL Interest Groups are being made available to all CARL Interest Groups. Katy Farrell will distribute the latest and future CARL Interest Group reports to SCIL members via email.

CARL Newsletter deadlines will be included on future SCIL meeting agendas to facilitate discussion of possible submissions.

VI. Round Robin
CSULA is hiring for an Assistant University Librarian.
Glendale College Library is hiring for an Associate Dean.
San Diego Mesa College is hiring for an Online Services Librarian.
Val Ontell announced that after the success of their ENG 101/LIB 101 Learning Community, San Diego Mesa College will repeat this pairing in the spring 2006 and will have a course number in fall 2006.
