Posting Description
This is a full-time tenure-track faculty position reporting to the Associate Dean, Library and Learning Resources. Full-time GCC library faculty are expected to participate in a variety of program areas, including information competency instruction, reference service, web-based services for distance learners, collection development, library technology and technical services. These assignments may be reallocated periodically, and assignments may depend on the interests and qualification of the successful applicant for this position.
This position is for the 10-month academic year with the possibility of an additional 5 week summer or 6 week winter session for additional pay. Full-time library faculty work 35 hours per week, and assignments may include evening and weekend hours and/or work at other GCC locations in addition to the main campus.
The GCC Library is a fast-paced, student-centered, teaching library. The successful candidate will be able to work collaboratively in a team environment and have skills in instruction, reference, information technology, electronic resources, collection development and technical services. Excellent written and verbal skills are a must.

Job Description
Major Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide leadership, planning and coordination for the library credit instruction program including developing and revising curriculum, promoting and teaching library classes, orientations, workshops and infusions in both classroom and online environments.
2. Work collaboratively to plan, develop, and deliver instruction in information competency.
3. Produce high quality online and print instructional and other materials in a timely manner.
4. Provide reference services to library users, both in person and online.
5. Apply new information technologies to the innovative delivery of library services, resources and instruction to on site and distance learners including those at other GCC locations.
6. Participate in the selection and maintenance of the library’s collections, both electronic and print.
7. Serve as liaison with faculty in assigned disciplines.
8. Participate in general planning and development of library programs, policies and procedures.
9. Participate in college governance and professional organizations.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in library science or library and information science from an ALA-accredited institution OR the equivalent.

Desirable Qualifications
1. Second master’s degree, additional course work, or special interest in a subject field.
2. Knowledge of and experience with new directions in libraries, new technologies for information communication, content creation, curriculum development and library instruction.
3. Creative, energetic and committed to the mission of the 21st century community college library.
4. Recent experience in a contemporary library.
5. Teaching or training experience.
6. Project management and/or technology management experience.
7. Sensitivity and strong commitment to working with diverse racial and ethnic groups.
8. Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
9. Strong service orientation and ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team environment.
10. Ability to provide direction to classified employees.
11. Ability to install, use, maintain, and troubleshoot hardware, software and peripherals.
12. Leadership ability and exceptional initiative, productivity, and organizational skills.
13. Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.

Position Specific Details
Full-time Academic Positions
Start Date: October 1, 2008
Starting salary is from $54,108.00 - $71,688.00 per year depending upon education and experience. Step placement within the appropriate column is determined by Article VIII of the Collective Bargaining agreement. Fringe benefits, which are subject to change pursuant to negotiations under Section 3500 of the California Government Code, are presently provided and include family and domestic partner medical and dental, two-party vision plan, and employee life insurance.

Academic Positions

The College President will make the final recommendation to the Governing Board of Glendale Community College.
