The University of Southern California Libraries seeks an Original Cataloger (Senior Library Assistant) to join its team. Under general supervision by the Head of Original Cataloging, the incumbent works independently using initiative and judgment in creating AACR2-based cataloging records for content in a variety of formats and Dublin Core formatted metadata records for digital archive files. Performs original and complex copy cataloging using AACR2rev, Library of Congress Rule Interpretations, LCSH and LCC for materials in English and western European or Slavic languages. Updates information as necessary in the local integrated library system. Creates and edits Dublin Core records for the Digital Archive using local cataloging systems. Employs technology from appropriate controlled vocabulary and follows established style-sheets and best practices in the creation of metadata records. Edits and resolves complex problems relating to record creation and system-related issues both independently and in concert with others. Requires editorial and technical expertise, flexibility, and the ability to work in a broad range of subject areas with a high level of productivity. Uses initiative, creativity, and judgment to ensure these responsibilities are performed appropriately.
