Los Medanos College is seeking an enthusiastic, creative and service-oriented librarian for a full-time, tenure track position beginning on or about January 2009. The successful applicant will be a flexible, team-oriented person who is able to work both independently and collaboratively in an ever-changing environment. The person filling this position will have primary responsibility for coordinating the electronic and technical services of the Los Medanos College library. The position is also responsible for regularly scheduled hours at the reference desk and for the preparation and presentation of general and specific library orientations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary responsibility in coordinating the electronic services of the Library, which includes:
• Coordinate the trials, purchase and implementation of electronic databases including eBooks
• Troubleshoot and maintain electronic databases and Library system at the local level
• Maintain the Library’s web presence
• Train staff and librarians on new electronic resources as well as new system features and procedures.

• Primary responsibility in coordinating the technical services of the Library, which includes:
• Oversee the cataloging of all library materials including books, periodicals, reference and reserves materials
• Coordinate the day-to-day operation of the circulation desk
• Maintenance and development of policies and procedures for the circulation of books, reserves, periodicals and media.

• Regularly scheduled reference desk hours.
• Preparation and presentation of general and specific library orientations.
• Participation in department, division, and college-wide committees and task forces.
• Evening assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.
• Maintain formal office and campus hours and participate in department and/or division meetings
• Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The applicant must possess one of the following qualifications:
1. A valid lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential authorizing full-time librarianship, OR
2. Master’s Degree in Library Science, Library and Information Science, OR
3. The equivalent. (If you believe that you meet the minimum qualifications via equivalency, please fill out the Master’s
Degree Discipline Equivalency form in the application packet.)

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
• A working knowledge and experience with an integrated online library system, preferably Innovative Interfaces.
• Familiarity with Internet technologies used in the library setting and web programming
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
• Demonstrated experience with electronic databases
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with computers and other forms of high technology
• Experience as a reference librarian
• Ability to work effectively with students, faculty and staff
• Evidence of strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to meet deadlines for assigned reports and activities
• Demonstrated leadership ability and willingness to participate in collegial governance
• Experience working with library technical services
