Daytime Workflow and Reserves Supervisor, Green Library, Stanford University Libraries
The Stanford University Libraries and Academic Information Resources (SULAIR) seeks a flexible, personable, and service-oriented team leader to serve as the Daytime Workflow and Reserves Supervisor for the Green Library. The successful candidate will manage a course reserves operation handling materials for all disciplines and faculty at Stanford, with an emphasis on Humanities programs.

Academic Year: Tues.-Sat. 9:00am-6:00pm
Summer Term: Tues.-Fri. 9:00am-6:00pm
Sat. 8:00am-5:00pm
All work schedules are subject to change due to departmental need and scheduled library hours.
Responsibilities:
The Daytime Workflow and Reserves Supervisor will hire, train, manage, and evaluate 3.5 full time course reserves staff, keeping them at peak productivity. He/she will direct staff performing several department functions, including:
o Processing course reserves.
o Paging auxiliary library materials (on and off site).
o Building opening and closing (Fri & Sat).
o Managing the loan desk stacks.
o Preparing and posting all Access Services related signage.
o Ordering supplies.
o Processing manual Recalls & Holds.
As Reserves Supervisor, the candidate will supervise and monitor all activities for print reserves, ensuring the timely placement of library materials on reserve. As course reserves liaison, the supervisor will interface with Stanford faculty as well as providing policy and procedure information to branch libraries.
In the course reserves technology role, the candidate will keep abreast of related changes to the library’s automation system, report problems and suggest enhancements. He/she will also research and implement an expansion of services to include electronic course reserves via Stanford’s Courseworks system.
The supervisor will help patrons and address circulation issues. As necessary, the supervisor will deal with incidents or emergencies within the library, whether patron or facility related.
The new Daytime Workflow and Reserves Supervisor will also perform specific tasks, including answering the department e-mail account on Fridays and Saturdays, clearing the unit “problem” shelf and interacting with the library systems analyst on course reserves matters.
As part of the unit’s management group, the supervisor will provide backup support for tasks handled by peer supervisors, give input on policy, procedure and workflow decisions, and address policy questions after hours. He/she will chair or participate in department teams on a variety of projects, including party planning and reserves planning.
Equipment, Systems, software, skills:
• High-level proficiency in MS Excel & Word.
• Experience with e-mail applications.
• Library automation system experience desired, particularly in print or electronic course reserves.
• Calendar and/or scheduling software knowledge desired.

• Strong verbal communication and business writing skills.
• High proficiency using PC-based applications (Windows, word processing, spreadsheets) and familiarity with other computer applications (email and internet).
• Knowledge of bibliographic and library skills.
• Ability to work at a computer terminal for two or more hours per day.
• Ability to move heavy items (up to 50 lbs) and maneuver heavy book carts (up to 250 lbs).
Preferred:
• Successful experience in an academic/research library.
• Experience managing course reserves, either print or electronic.
• Knowledge and skills required for this position can be gained through the equivalent of four or more years of library (or related) experience.
