Loyola Marymount University seeks an exceptional candidate for the position of Systems Librarian. Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the Systems Librarian develops and delivers library systems products and services, maintains the stability and integrity of these systems, and ensures that library staff are skilled in their use.

Loyola Marymount, founded in 1911, is a comprehensive university in the mainstream of American Catholic higher education. Located on the west side of Los Angeles overlooking the Pacific Ocean, LMU is one of the nation’s 28 Jesuit colleges and universities and five Marymount institutions. It serves 5,400 undergraduates and over 2,500 graduate students in the Colleges/Schools of Liberal Arts, Science and Engineering, Business Administration, Communication and Fine Arts, Film and Television, Education, and Law. The successful candidate for the position of Systems Librarian will provide leadership in identifying, planning, budgeting and implementing the library’s systems and will serve on the library’s Management Council.

Other position specific accountabilities are as follows:

o Perform technology systems analysis in library departments, providing workflow recommendations and consultation. Train library staff when introducing new technologies.
o Serve as primary liaison to the library’s integrated library system (ILS) vendor – Innovative Interfaces, Inc. and serve as system administrator for this and other systems.
o Chair the library’s Technology Committee; represent and promote library systems in campus forums and committees.
o Support the library’s digital initiatives, facilitating access to these collections and their integration with various library systems. Provide input, support and programming for the library’s web site.
o Ensure effective online serials access.
o Contribute to the profession through publications, formal presentations, and participation in relevant professional associations and groups, locally, regionally and nationally.

Required: ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science or other related graduate degree. Knowledge of the major aspects of library functions such as acquisitions, circulation, document delivery, electronic reserves and electronic serials management. Knowledge of library information technology, including OCLC, MARC standards, TCP/IP, relational databases, and multi-tiered library systems. Must be self directed, flexible and adaptable to change, analytical, creative, and results oriented. Commitment to professional development.

Preferred: Knowledge of Innovative Interfaces, Inc., Docutek ERes, and Serials Solutions systems. Knowledge of metadata developments and applications.

Experience: Three to five years of increasingly responsible work experience in a library systems department or similar setting. Experience in web authoring using Javascript, Ajax, XHTML, PHP, and/or PERL. Experience with Windows; familiarity with Mac and Unix.

Hiring Salary: $50,818 to $66,114 commensurate with experience and salary history.
