San Jose State University Library at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, (a unique collaboration between the City of San Jose and San Jose State University), is currently recruiting for a Library Faculty pool for part-time temporary appointments. We are looking for librarians with combined reference and technological skills. Librarians will generally be appointed to percentage-based part-time positions. The number of appointments made in a particular semester may vary. The part-time assignments may range from .1 (4 hours per week) to .3 (12 hours per week) or slightly higher. Assignments may not all have the same job responsibilities or weekly hours. Assigned time may include days, evenings and/or weekends. By mutual consent, a work schedule may deviate on occasion to fill-in for a librarian on a short or long-term leave.

Duties may include one or more of the following:
• Provide quality one-on-one reference, research support, and instruction in finding, using and evaluating information. These services may be provided at the reference desk and in a variety of formats and settings including phone, email, virtual 24/7 reference, and on campus at Living/Learning Center and Academic Success Center.
• Deliver technology-enabled information and research services via a variety of media and web-based tools, such as iTunesU, Meebo (IM), and co-browsing.
• Support the library instruction program by developing digital learning objects.
• Explore, evaluate, recommend and implement new and developing technologies for communication, instruction and reference applications to enhance library services and resources.
• Document and analyze data on reference transactions to provide a knowledge base which would guide the reference unit in its efforts to improve service.
• Collaborate with librarians in various academic teams and projects which may include outreach, instruction, and delivery of digital resources and services.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
ALA accredited Masters degree or its equivalent.
Demonstrated knowledge of library resources and services.
Demonstrated proficiency with emerging technologies and their innovative applications.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of multicultural populations.
Ability to work collaboratively with other librarians, support staff, teaching faculty and students in an evolving organization and rapidly changing information environment.

Rank and Salary:
Senior Assistant Librarian. Starting salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
