Bibliographer (Assoc. Curator/Curator), Getty Research Institute
Reporting to the Associate Director/Chief Librarian, develops general library collections in the history of art, architecture, archaeology, and conservation. The position requires professional training and experience in both the history of art as well as art librarianship and bibliography. Oversees the general library acquisitions budget; participates in the Getty-wide Research Library Acquisition Committee; oversees approval plans and coordinates the work of subject specialists from throughout the Getty; coordinates recommendations for acquisitions; assesses offers and donations of large collections; manages the trade or sale of unwanted gifts and duplicates; works collegially with Getty staff who use the library concerning library collections; and works collaboratively with Technical Services staff and GRI curators to establish processing priorities and to evaluate materials. Supervises one Library Assistant.
Requires: Master’s degree in art history; Master’s degree in Library/Information Science; Ph.D. in art history preferred. Seven years experience in an art research library with bibliographic responsibilities; excellent knowledge of two or more foreign languages (including European or Asian languages).
