Assistant Librarian
Touro University – California seeks an enthusiastic Assistant Librarian for its rapidly expanding university.
The university is located on historic Mare Island, 40 miles north of San Francisco. Current colleges include Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) and Health Sciences (P.A. /M.P.H.), The College of Education and the College of Pharmacy. This is a full-time position with non-tenured faculty status. Excellent benefits, generous vacation/holiday package.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Interlibrary/document delivery operations using OCLC and DOCLINE.
- Serve as liaison to the College of Education
- Coordinate and proctor exams held in the Library.
- Oversee circulation activities including training of student workers and overdue records.
- Assist with cataloging print and non-print materials.
- Promote library services and information literacy.
- Provide general reference services and literature searches for students, faculty, staff and preceptors.
- Serve on faculty and university-wide committees.
- Other duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate degree from an ALA accredited program or an equivalent graduate library science/information studies degree required.
- Good computer skills including MS Office, specifically WORD and EXCEL.
- Working knowledge of online databases, particularly in medicine and education.
- Good oral and written communication; excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; strong customer-service orientation required.
- Must work well with students and be able to coordinate Library rooms and exams during Exam Blocks.
- Knowledge of OCLC and integrated library systems such as Innovative Interfaces required.
- Previous library experience desired, but will consider new library school graduates who exhibit an enthusiasm for learning.
- Ability to work with other Touro campuses including those in Nevada and New York.
- Ability to bend, lift, shift books and journals up to 25 pounds required.
- Preferred working hours: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM Monday – Thursday and 7:30 A.M. – 2:00 PM Friday and occasional Sundays 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM during the academic year.
