Following a major reorganization and reorientation, the California Library Association will position itself as a leading voice for all of the state’s library institutions, and the people who work in them and for them. The new Executive Director /CEO will be critical to the development and success of a more strategic orientation grounded in a firm business plan.
Our Vision
Member services and benefits will be enhanced and satisfaction measured. New revenue streams will be introduced. Powerful partnerships and coalitions will be formed. Networks will be facilitated. Communications will be clear, consistent and transparent. The annual conference will be improved and other continuing education programs and opportunities investigated. The Board of Directors will be focused on policy, strategic planning and assessment. Decisions will be based on data. Infrastructure improvements will enable operational efficiency and service excellence.
Who will be invited for an Interview?
The successful candidate will be:
• An experienced leader exhibiting the requisite qualities: creative in planning, savvy in business and politics, ethical and transparent in decision-making, courageous in taking calculated risks, a great communicator and advocate, comfortable in library, association and political environments, and possess a strong business acumen.
• An inspiring visionary with the skill set and/or established relationships to secure large corporate sponsorships to help grow Association programs.
• Able to quickly assess which “best practices” in the Association world can and should be applied to CLA programs. And, of course, you recognize that a sense of humor would be a decided asset!
Bottom line: The successful candidate will have a free hand to engage and develop a small staff while being accountable for member and revenue growth. There is no shortage of ideas and opportunities. You may be located in Sacramento, or indeed anywhere, if you can deliver. These are exciting times with great potential. Are you up for the challenge?
