System Administrator/Technical Services Librarian

Salary: $50,758 – $72,049/annually + benefits (dependent upon education & experience)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Dean of learning Resources and Extended Services the System Administrator/Technical Services Librarian will oversee the operation of all modules of the integrated library system (ILS), lead instructional sessions for library staff in the use of ILS modules, and perform other technical service duties, such as copy and/or original cataloging.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS;

  1. Possession of a Master’s degree, or equivalent foreign degree, in the discipline of the faculty member’s assignment.
  2. Possession of a Master’s degree, or equivalent foreign degree, in a discipline reasonably related to the faculty member’s assignment and possession of a Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent foreign degree, in the discipline of the faculty member’s assignment or the equivalent (See Supplemental Equivalency Request Form).
  3. Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree from an American Library Association accredited program
  • Experience as administrator of an integrated library system, such as Syrsi/Dynix Horizon (all modules)
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve integrated library system issues both analytically and technically
  • Knowledge of current information technologies as they apply to technical services and system administration
  • Knowledge of SQL
  • Knowledge ofHTML coding or an HTML editor, such as Dreamweaver
  • Print and media cataloging experience using an integrated library system, such as Syrsi/Dynix horizon
  • Experience using OCLC
  • Knowledge of AACR II, Library of Congress Subject headings, and library of congress Classification
  • Ability to perform original and copy cataloging
  • Ability to plan and deliver instruction to library faculty and staff in the use of the integrated library system
  • Oral, written and presentational communications skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and collegial working relationships with students, staff, faculty administrators

DUTIES:

  • Maintains and administers the integrated library system (Syrsi/Dynix Horizon) including, but not limited to the cataloging, circulation, reserve, acquisitions, Horizon information Portal, and automated report generation modules.
  • Provides leadership in installing, managing, and upgrading information technology systems in the Library.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting the integrated library system.
  • Works cooperatively with other library information technology staff to determine technological needs of the Library.
  • Serves as primary liaison with the vendor of the integrated system and new resources and services accordingly.
  • Creates and/or maintains policies and procedures for database updates.
  • Generates reports as necessary.
  • Instructs staff in the use of integrated library system modules.
  • Performs copy cataloging and original cataloging.
