Reference Librarian (part-time)

Antioch University, Los Angeles, is accepting applications for a part-time Reference Librarian. As an institution committed to social justice, the increase of information literacy skills across all programs of study at Antioch University Los Angeles (AULA) has become one of the institution’s primary goals. AULA’s Library has recently increased student outreach and in-class instruction on library research methods and online resources. As more students are introduced to the resources available to them and to the importance of information literacy for professional growth and personal empowerment, demand for one-on-one research help has increased dramatically. The AULA Library seeks a part-time Reference Librarian to provide one-on-one instruction and reference services to students.

Job Specifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science (M.L.S.) from an ALA-accredited university.
  • Ability to provide clear instruction on the use of online resources including EBSCO databases, ERIC, Lexis Nexis, and PsychInfo.
  • High level of computer proficiency.
  • Experience providing reference services via chat applications and/or IM preferred.
  • Understanding of issues of social justice as they pertain to access to information and the means of production of published, archived resources.
  • Ability to serve and to support a diverse student population.

Hours of Employment: This is a part-time position. A 10-15-hour per week work schedule will be established in consultation with the Director of Library Services. Hours of employment will include some evening and weekend hours.

Compensation and Benefits: The hourly rate is $25 per hour. This is a non-benefited position. Relocation expenses are not provided. (Position funded through June2008. Continued funding contingent upon budget funding.)
