Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science (MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited program) OR a California Community College Instructor credential appropriate to the subject OR the equivalent.

Knowledge of and ability to appraise the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic back-grounds of community college students. Sensitivity to the needs, problems and challenges associated with the diversity of the community college student population.

Salary Range:
Placement on the Yosemite Community College District salary schedule dependent upon education and experience. 2006-2007 Salary Schedule - $44,997.00 to $90,292.00 plus an annual $2,100 stipend for an earned doctorate. New personnel limited to a maximum tenth step initial placement based on previous experience – maximum equals $71,509.00.

Terms of Employment:
This is a temporary 10-month position, 32 hours per week.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work several hours per week at Library Reference Desks (east and west campuses).
  • Provide library instruction sessions.
  • Collaborate with Library staff to plan for current and future needs.
  • Work collegially with the Library faculty and staff as well as with staff from District, other libraries, and library cooperatives and associations.
  • Serve on Library teams as needed.
  • Provide statistical and evaluative reports to library administration as requested
  • Participate in Library activities as needed.
  • Participate in continuing education, professional associations, service, and/or research.
  • Work nights and weekends as needed.
  • Travel between campuses as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited program
  • Ability to work constructively both independently and in cooperation with colleagues and users in a service-oriented environment
  • Organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Strong service orientation
  • Potential for meeting requirements for tenure and promotion
  • Knowledge of and ability to appraise the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
  • Sensitivity to the needs, problems and challenges associated with the diversity of the community college student population
  • Proficiency in use of emerging information technologies
  • Ability to use available technologies as teaching and/or student service tools
  • Experience in an academic library (esp. community college)
  • Ability to teach Library course for academic credit

Applications will be reviewed by a screening committee, which will select candidates to be interviewed. After interviews, a recommendation will be forwarded to the President, Chancellor, and Board of Trustees.

Official offer of employment may be extended only by the Chancellor or Vice Chancellor, Human Resources.

Federal law requires that the district employ only U.S. citizens and aliens authorized to work in the United States. Written verification of employment eligibility is required.

A background investigation of new employees is required, including reference checks and a state criminal history report. The cost for the criminal history report will be the responsibility of the successful candidate
