Temporary Instructional Design Librarian

The University of California, Irvine Libraries seek an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and user-oriented librarian to lead a project to revise and enhance the Libraries’ Tutorial (online). The Instructional Design Librarian is a member of the Libraries’ Department of Education and Outreach and reports directly to the Head of the Department. Working with personnel from the University’s Distance Education Center, the incumbent will update, enhance, and maintain the content of the Libraries’ Tutorial and may assist with other short-term projects to help librarians build and develop instruction aids and tutorials that make use of technology. These aids and tutorials will support instruction in basic information literacy skills and in the use of other library resources and services.

• Update and enhance the Libraries’ Tutorial
• Maintain and create library instruction web pages
• Contribute to library instruction projects

Qualifications
Required
• Graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution or an equivalent combination of relevant advanced degree and library experience
• Ability to manage projects involving a variety of individuals and departments
• Ability to understand the information seeking behavior of library users
• Skill in developing, organizing, and maintaining web-based instructional resources
• Successful teaching experience in a library setting
• Understanding of accessibility issues and/or usability testing
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in teams and in a dynamically changing environment.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies

Salary & Benefits: This is a temporary, half-time appointment for 3.5 months from the date of hire. Preferred start date is April 15, 2009. Salary is $1,923.50 per month (appointment level Assistant Librarian I).

Librarians are entitled to two days per month of annual leave, thirteen paid holidays, and one day per month sick leave.
