Librarian, Assistant Professor
The University of La Verne invites applications for Librarian (Assistant Professor), a non-tenure track 12-month faculty appointment. The responsibilities of this position include providing research consultation services to library users in a multi-disciplinary environment using multiple formats (in-person, e-mail, phone, and chat); developing, promoting, delivering, and evaluating effective library research skills/information literacy instructional sessions, seminars and workshops for both on-campus and off-campus programs; developing the library collection by selecting materials for acquisition in all formats; serving as liaison with academic departments, and evaluating current or new digital resources. In addition, the incumbent will function as a team member with the library faculty and staff in performing committee and task force assignments; work evenings and weekends as required, on a rotational basis, with other library faculty; travel to and conduct off-campus instruction as required; maintain a program of professional development that would include professional reading, conference attendance, and participation in professional organizations.
The position requires a master’s degree in Library Science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association. Necessary capabilities for the position include excellent reference skills, including database searching; strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and expertise with the Internet; effective written and oral communications skills; an understanding of academic collection development practices; the ability to function flexibly in a team environment; and instructional skills to collaborate with faculty and provide information literacy and critical thinking instruction.
