Licensing and Contract Librarian for Digital Collections (50% position)
Hiring range: Associate Librarian I – III
$48,029 – $52,860 per annum, depending upon qualifications
This is a three-year, 50% position with possibility for extension.

The University of California, Berkeley, seeks a dynamic, creative, highly-motivated librarian to serve as a licensing and contract librarian for the library’s digital collection development program. This is a three-year, 50% position with possibility for extension.

Responsibilities:

This half-time position reports to the Electronic Resources Librarian and will work closely with the Director of Collections and the Acquisitions Librarian. The Licensing and Contract Librarian will be an integral member of the Digital Acquisitions Group, and will participate in special digital resource projects, new initiatives, long range planning and other ad-hoc duties as assigned. The Licensing and Contract Librarian will:

-Review all licenses for digital content and will have signature authority for licenses. Ensure compliance with basic license requirements. Identify new language requiring exceptional administrative review.
-Manage the workflow of communications with external vendors/publishers from initial communication to on-going negotiation to license signoff.
-Develop a process to manage and archive electronic resource contracts and licensing workflows.
-Investigate and resolve breaches.
-Coordinate and work closely with the Technical Services Department’s acquisitions staff.
-Serve on the Digital Acquisitions Group and other bodies as appropriate.

UCB librarians are expected to participate in library-wide planning and governance, to be able to work comfortably in a shared decision-making environment, and to be active professionally. Professional contributions beyond the primary responsibilities, e.g., active participation in university and professional settings, publication or other research and creative activity, are required for advancement in the Librarian series. The successful candidate will show promise or evidence of such contributions.

Qualifications:

Required:
-MLIS from an ALA accredited institution, or equivalent degree.
-Knowledge of or experience with license agreements and common license or contract terms.
-Experience with digital resources.
-Demonstrated ability to set priorities and work both individually and collaboratively within a diverse and changing environment.
-Demonstrated interpersonal skills including excellent written and verbal communication skills to establish and maintain a strong working relationship with vendors and staff.

Desirable:
-Experience in technical services, particularly in the area of acquisitions.
-Experience with populating or using an Electronic Resource Management System.

In conformance with University of California policy, continuing employment will be contingent upon completion of satisfactory background investigation.
