Part-Time Hourly Librarian–Glendale Community College

Glendale Community College is accepting applications for adjunct librarians in our fast-paced, service-oriented and instruction-focused library. Librarians with teaching experience and interest in teaching in our credit program and/or workshop program are especially encouraged to apply. Assignments may include teaching, reference, collection development and/or cataloging and may include daytime or evening hours. Hours are scheduled based on library need and applicant availability with no guaranteed number of hours; most part-time librarians work between 4 and 8 hours per week. Adjunct librarians report to the Library & Learning Resources Director; supervision is also provided by faculty librarians coordinating various service areas.

Minimum Requirements:
Master’s in library science or library and information science from an ALA-accredited institution OR the equivalent together with course work and/or experience with library information technologies and Internet research.

Duties &responsibilities
May include one or more of the following:
1. Provide reference services to students, faculty, staff, and community members, including suggested search strategies and instruction in the use of electronic, Web, and print resources.
2. Teach credit, non-credit, staff development, or other library classes, workshops or orientations in both classroom and online environments.
3. Produce high quality online and print instructional materials, guides, and other written materials in a timely manner.
4. Select and maintain the library?s collections, both electronic and print.
5. Catalog new materials and/or review the cataloging of others
6. Acquire, arrange, list, preserve and develop finding aids for materials in the GCC Archives.

Desirable qualifications
1. Second master?s degree, additional course work, or special interest in a subject field.
2. Informed and thoughtful regarding new directions in libraries, library instruction, information literacy/competency and new technologies for information, communication, and content creation.
3. Creative, energetic, and committed to the mission of the 21st century community college library.
4. Strong oral and written communication skills.
5. Recent work experience in the following areas of a contemporary library: reference, electronic databases, library instruction, cataloging, and/or archives.
6. Teaching or training experience.
7. Sensitivity and strong commitment to working with diverse racial and ethnic groups.
8. Interact in a welcoming and effective manner with students.
9. Strong service orientation and ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team environment.
10. Ability to use, maintain, and troubleshoot hardware, software and peripherals.
11. Ability to work with minimum supervision.
12. High standard of professionalism.

Starting salary is $53.03 per hour.
