$4,755 – $6,008 per month

Established in 1929, The California Maritime Academy, a campus of the California State University, is a bachelor’s degree granting institution offering degrees in engineering technology, global studies & maritime affairs, international business & logistics, marine transportation, and mechanical engineering. New bachelor’s and master’s degree programs are being considered for continued growth and diversification as a maritime institution.

We seek an enthusiastic and forward thinking librarian to coordinate and further develop our Information Fluency Program in classroom and online environments, serve as a liaison to academic departments, and collaborate in library public services. Working with campus faculty, the Information Fluency Librarian will ensure that students graduate with an advanced level of fluency in using information resources. The Information Fluency Librarian will provide excellent service and instruction to library users; establish all components of the Information Fluency Program; create instructional modules, library study guides, and handouts; provide reference services; develop the library’s collections; participate in professional development activities; serve on campus and academic senate committees; lead and participate in special projects and other library operations as needed.

Strong communication skills and a dedicated customer service attitude are crucial to success in this position. The candidate will have a strong interest in guiding students and faculty in the use of research tools. The candidate should possess a vision for assisting and teaching in an evolving environment of teaching and learning systems, physical information resources, and online information. A commitment to developing and maintaining familiarity with current and emerging trends in information fluency is required. The Information Fluency Librarian reports to the Library Director.

LOCATION: The campus is located in Vallejo on the north shore of the Carquinez Strait at the northeastern extreme of the San Pablo Bay, approximately 30 miles northeast of San Francisco.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA accredited institution; classroom teaching or presentation or public speaking experience; high comfort level with desktop computing.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in coordinating a library instruction or information literacy program; knowledge of teaching methods, learning theories, and educational assessment; experience with web editing, learning management systems, and e-portfolios; reference desk experience; collection development experience; experience working in an academic library; special projects experience in a library.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work is performed in classrooms and in using a computer keyboard with regular exposure to a computer monitor. Must be physically capable of lifting and moving up to 25 pounds in a safe manner to shelve books/supplies reload copiers and must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
