University Librarian
The University Librarian, reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, provides leadership for Alliant International University’s Library Operations, effectively recommends Library policies and procedures and communicates Library issues to senior administration. S/he leads strategic planning for and evaluation of Library operations; prepares the budget for the Library department, manages university-wide library accounts, and monitors campus library accounts. S/he coordinates library resources and services across the University and supervises the campus Library Directors and local San Diego campus library staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop, recommend, and/or implement university-wide library policies and procedures;
2. Respond to inquiries from students, faculty, library staff, and administrators regarding library policies, procedures, resources, services and determine and initiate appropriate action;
3. Prepare and manage the annual budget for the University Library department;
4. Supervise and provide management oversight for the Library Management Team including convening regular meetings, assigning and overseeing goals and objectives and hiring and evaluating library staff;
5. Evaluate new library products or services for acquisition or implementation;
6. Review and renew as appropriate annual licenses for electronic resources and contracts for University services, e.g. LINK+ and Innovative library system;
7. Negotiate licenses for electronic resources, as necessary;
8. Represent Alliant International University at library consortia meetings;
9. Provide oversight for the compilation and analysis of University library data for institutional reports and prepare library reports for various agencies;
10. Recommend and help develop policies outside the Library, e.g. dissertation filing procedures and implementation of assessment lab fee;
11. Other duties as required and assigned by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: MLS from an ALA-accredited program.
Experience: Minimum 10 years experience in the administration of an academic library; ability to work effectively and collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and administrators; strong problem solving, interpersonal, organizational, and planning skills; a substantial record of professional service and/or scholarship; strong vision and understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by 21st century academic libraries;
Management: Supervisory experience including hiring, evaluating and leading professional level library staff.
Technical: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; Management level comprehension and experience with Library Information Systems.
