Ventura College is located in the beautiful coastal city of Ventura, about 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara. We opened a new library three years ago that has since become the hub of the campus and campus life. Librarians are considered faculty on a 10-month contract in our District.

Position Information
Brief Description:
The initial assignment will be at VENTURA COLLEGE. All academic employees are subject to assignment in any college of the District depending upon staffing needs as defined within the terms of the VCCCD/AFT Agreement. Nontraditional assignments such as evening, weekend, or off-site assignments may be made with consent of faculty member, management or when special conditions exist on a campus as defined within the terms of the VCCCD/AFT agreement.
The district seeks candidates exhibiting a sensitivity and understanding of the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Contract is based on a 10 month year to begin with the fall semester 2008. Fringe benefits include family medical, dental and vision insurance plans. Maximum credit for prior experience is 7 years.
Job Duties:
Work with the Dean of Communication and Learning Resources, library faculty and staff to supply a wide range of library services. Primary duties include providing leadership, planning, and coordination of collection development activities; coordinating the purchase of print and non-print library materials in collaboration with faculty; evaluating the collection and coordinating weeding activities with faculty; evaluating the usefulness of donated materials; performing original and copy cataloguing of library materials; and working in a team environment with classified employees who report to the Learning Resources Supervisor. This position will also include public service duties: teaching research methods one-on-one to students and other patrons while staffing the reference desk and/or providing digital reference assistance; teaching bibliographic instruction/information literacy instruction to both face-to-face and online college classes; participating in the development and implementation of library policies; developing and/or teaching credit-based library instruction courses; and working with campus faculty and administrators on academic and professional matters. The successful candidate should also have knowledge of new and upcoming technologies as they relate to library instruction and services.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s in library science, library and information science OR the equivalent OR possession of an appropriate California Community College credential.
Candidates not possessing the minimum qualifications as stated above, must complete the supplemental questionnaire and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above
All course work must be from a regionally accredited college or university.
Knowledge Of:
The successful candidate should also have knowledge of new and upcoming technologies as they relate to library instruction and services.

Salary Range:
$43,408 - $91,156

Starting Salary:
New employees may request salary placement above step one based on directly related experience which exceeds the minimum qualifications for the classification. Advanced salary placement must be requested at the time of offer and is subject to verification of qualifying experience and applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements and/or Personnel Commission Rules.
