Reference Librarian
Loyola Marymount University seeks a public services oriented librarian for the position of Reference Librarian at the new William H. Hannon Library.

The Reference Librarian will be responsible for providing research service and computing support for the William H. Hannon Library. The Reference Librarian works at the Information Desk and participates in virtual reference. The Reference Librarian provides library instruction to the LMU community, teaching at least 20 classes in the Fall semester. The Reference Librarian will also provide collection development in assigned subject areas; create web-based instructional materials; and assist with Reference Department projects, assessment, and decision-making. The Reference Librarian reports to the Head of Reference & Instructional Services.
Other position specific accountabilities are as follows:
o Works between 6 and 12 hours per week at the Information Desk, including some work on evenings, weekends, and holidays.
o Assists in the creation of internal training documentation for the Reference and Instruction Department, including updating the Library Wiki.
o Helps supervise student workers at the Information Desk, and assists in the creation, maintenance, and implementation of all training materials for student workers at the Information Desk.
o Liaison to departmental faculty in specific subject areas.
o Provides occasional library tours.
o Serves the University through internal and external committee membership.
o Pursues professional development opportunities.
The ideal candidate will have broad knowledge of current trends in higher education and academic libraries along with experience in reference, instruction, and collection development in an academic library.
Educational Requirements: A Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited institution is preferred, but related master’s degree with appropriate experience may be substituted.
Experience: Evidence of knowledge of basic reference sources and reference practices. Knowledge of library instruction/information literacy and collection development practices in academic libraries. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency with Windows and Macintosh operating systems and knowledge of basic productivity software. Working knowledge of emerging technologies critical to the design and delivery of library services.
Preferred: Educational design experience; visual data/graphics software experience (such as Photoshop or Illustrator); academic background in the Sciences.
Hiring Salary: minimum $50,820; commensurate with experience and salary history.
