Job Summary Under the general direction of the University Librarian exercises decision-making responsibilities in directing and coordinating the activities of the Collection and Processing Services Unit (CPS). This includes financial and personnel matters, information technologies, and general administrative tasks such as strategic planning and the development and interpretation of policies and procedures to support the University community in an effective and accountable manner. CPS sections include Cataloging, Acquisitions and Database Management, Serials and Electronic Resources, and Government Documents; Collection Development is also coordinated in the Unit. As a member of the Management Team this position shares in the policy-making decisions and management responsibilities for the Library as a whole. Incumbent may assume responsibility for Library operations in the absence of the University Librarian (UL) and Associate University Librarian (AUL) and may be asked to represent the Library at a variety of meetings, both internal and external to the university or campus community. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications Master’s degree from an accredited university in Library Science. Five years of professional and relevant experience in progressively more responsible positions, including personnel supervision. Effective and proven communication skills (verbal and written) Understanding of and experience in implementing principles of library and information science services, philosophies, technologies, and library-wide operations (services provided and resources required) Demonstrated awareness of new services, technologies, and programs, including recommending and coordinating the appropriate Library implementations.
Preferred Qualifications Understanding of and experience in business operations, such as accounting, strategic planning, cost analysis, personnel administration, licenses, contracts and leases, project management, statistical analysis, and process optimization, among other business practices.
Supervisory and/or management experience in an academic library. Demonstrated recent experience with relevant library technical services duties such as cataloging, serials and electronic resources including Electronic Resource Management Systems, acquisitions and database management, and/or collection development.
