Senior Director, Systemwide Library Services

The Office of the Chancellor of the California State University System (CSU System), the largest four year public university system in the nation, seeks highly qualified candidates for the Senior Director, Systemwide Library Services. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer/Assistant Vice Chancellor, Information Technology Services, the successful candidate in this newly created position will have an unprecedented opportunity to establish the role and serve as the chief strategist and primary administrator for all aspects of management and leadership for CSU systemwide library initiatives. The Senior Director will work collaboratively across the CSU System to develop a set of shared practices, policies, and programs that allow the CSU libraries to further augment their existing program and intellectual assets into an even more efficient and effective academic resource for CSU students and faculty members, regardless of place or time.

Working in close collaboration with the Council of Library Directors of the CSU system, the Senior Director will lead and manage the development and implementation of new digital resources, promote the adoption of best practices across the system, and help the libraries to leverage their unique assets to develop an integrated academic resource that is widely used and trusted by students and faculty working across the state. The Senior Director will also have an administrative reporting line to the Senior Director for Academic Technology Services and, as part of their senior leadership team, will work closely with the CSU Division of Academic Affairs to integrate library planning and programs with academic programs.

This position requires an advanced degree in Library Science, Information Science or related field; earned doctorate desirable; demonstrated command of trends in academic and digital libraries, information policy, and collaborative technologies; appreciation for the various roles libraries play in the broad academic spectrum of the university; successful and effective leadership in an academic environment including a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and to develop and manage projects in support of excellent services; demonstrated experience or knowledge of trends in library consortia and collaborative ventures; demonstrated experience in developing and implementing financial strategies for libraries; demonstrated knowledge of technology applications relevant to user-centered library services; evidence of enthusiasm, creativity and potential to succeed in a rapidly changing academic library environment, including a good collaborative and relationship building track record; and a demonstrated record of progressively increasing administrative experience relevant to the requirements of the position, including ability in leadership, participative management and sound fiscal and human resource management.
