Reference Librarian (Temporary One-year Position; Part-Time (50%
The University of California, Santa Barbara, one of the ten campuses of the UC, is looking for two Reference Librarians to provide excellent, enthusiastic, creative, and energetic service to all its clientele. The successful candidates must be self motivated, flexible, and service oriented.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Head of Reference Services, the librarian provides scheduled reference service to students, faculty, staff and the university community for all disciplines in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. Offers research assistance in person, via phone, chat, and email. The incumbent participates in the library’s instruction program, teaching basic instruction to students on information research methodology. Schedule can be flexible, but will include some evening and weekend hours.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required – ALA accredited MLS. Demonstrated reference experience in general and/or specialized reference services. Strong commitment to excellence in public service and the ability to work in a dynamic and challenging academic setting. Ability to work effectively with faculty, students, staff, and community users. Familiarity and demonstrated ability to integrate new technologies into the delivery of information services. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Preferred – Library instruction experience.

SALARY: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, minimum $1961/mo. (50% appointment). The position is available from September 1, 2010 through August 31, 2011. Librarians at UC, Santa Barbara are professional academic appointees who accrue vacation and sick leave based on the percentage of appointment.
