Under the direction of the Executive Director, Library, the Head of Access Services, is responsible for the full range of circulation services and the maintenance of collections and service facilities in support of research, including planning, training and managing the Access Services Department. This person will also assist the Executive Director, Library in expanding services and connections with public and academic communities through a variety of consortial relationships.

Responsibilities
* Manages a team that creates a responsive learning and research environment for students, faculty, and visiting researchers from the community.
* In conjunction with the Library Management Team, evaluates services, develops procedures, recommends policies, establishes work priorities, plans improvements, and delegates’ duties.
* Develops and ensures quality control for the Library New Student Worker Orientation program.
* Performs annual staff performance appraisals.
* Serves as project coordinator for the upcoming move to a consortial borrowing and access relationship with MARINet libraries, including major changes in software, materials delivery, loan rules, integration with library partners, and service to community patrons.
* Participates in library workgroups that plan, implement and evaluate technology-based operations, library computer systems, and general service improvements.
* Provides leadership in developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating an innovative access services environment and maintaining a high level of service quality in response to user needs.
* Provides direct public service at the Circulation Desk, including policy explanation, complaint resolution, problem solving, patron registration, fine collection, and the check in and out of materials.
* Coordinates the use and maintenance of the circulating collection. Establishes policies and procedures designed to provide optimal access to the collection while ensuring its security.
* Responsible for submitting, editing and printing Circulation System reports through the Integrated Library System.
* Consults with Technical Services and Information Technology Department to coordinate the operation of the Circulation Automated SystemInterlibrary Loan Automation needs, Reserves, and related software. Recommends automated system changes and needed updates for Access Services, and collaborates with the Executive Director, Library on policy guidelines.
* Responsible for all Access Services Department monetary transactions.
* Oversees building and collections, accessibility and security, helps, design, monitor and review, collection and building security procedures.
* Compiles quarterly Board Reports and an Annual Report on the activities of the Access Service Department, including statistical information, to be submitted as requested to the Executive Director, Library.
* Upholds the Privacy Act, the Open Records Act which provides an exemption for library records.
* Serves as Library Disaster Team Member and updates Library Disaster Plan as needed.
* Prepares and revises the Access Services Department Policy Manual as needed.
* Other duties may be assigned.

Faculty Duties
* Participates in the Library’s instruction program, including teaching and assessing workshops on basic and specialized resources and providing occasional reference and research assistance to students, faculty, staff, and the community as needed.
* May serve on university committees and manage special projects upon request.

Qualifications
* A graduate degree from an ALA-accredited library school.
* Three or more years of managerial/supervisory experience with evidence of sustained service quality improvement.
* Must be current on relevant technologies and on emerging trends in Access Services.
* Strong working knowledge of at least one integrated library system, preferably Innovative Interfaces, Inc.
* Ability to analyze, research, and solve technical problems, using self initiative and vendor technical support.
* Must be able to attend to occasional, unscheduled, after hours ILS malfunctions that affect Circulation procedures.
* Ability to interact effectively in a multi-cultural environment with co-workers, library users, and the wider campus community.
* Ability and willingness to work in a team environment.
* Availability to work some weeknights and/or weekends.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred
* Project management experience.
* Training/teaching experience in group and one-on-one settings.
