Full-time, Non-Tenured Track Externally Funded Faculty Position for Spring 2012.</p>
<p>Cañada College is seeking an innovative and student-centered Electronic Resources Librarian to provide leadership for the development of distance education programing and resources campus-wide. These will include online resources and services for distance education courses as well as online library resources and services for all students. The Electronic Resources Librarian will work with librarians, faculty, and staff across campus to integrate library services into online learning.</p>
<p>The Electronic Resources Librarian is expected to be active professionally in the fields of librarianship and distance education and will keep abreast of emerging technologies and trends for a diverse study body (including Basic Skills, ESL, Transfer, Career and Technical, and Honors students). This includes trends in electronic library resources, such electronic books and journals, electronic textbooks, open educational resources, and digital literacy. The Electronic Resources Librarian will collaborate with the campus Instructional Designer to provide training for the campus community on new technologies and online resources.</p>
<p>Duties and Responsibilities: the Electronic Resources Librarian:<br />
1. Provides leadership in Distance Education programing through collaboration with faculty;<br />
2. Works with a team of librarians to select, develop, and implement online resources and services (including databases, ebooks, online guides, and reference tools);<br />
3. Provides online and face-to-face reference and instruction;<br />
4. Assists College faculty in integrating electronic resources throughout the curriculum;<br />
5. Provides leadership in the promotion and assessment of electronic resources.<br />
6. Stays abreast of developments in fields of digital librarianship and online education;<br />
7. Works with consortia partners, including the Peninsula Library System and the Community College Library Consortium;<br />

<p>The initial assignment will be at Moorpark COLLEGE. All academic employees are subject to assignment in any college of the District depending upon staffing needs as defined within the terms of the VCCCD/AFT Agreement. Nontraditional assignments such as evening, weekend, or off-site assignments may be made with consent of faculty member, management or when special conditions exist on a campus as defined within the terms of the VCCCD/AFT agreement.</p>
<p>SALARY AND EXPERIENCE<br />

<p>This position reports to the Director of the C. V. Starr East Asian Library.</p>
<p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong> The incumbent will evaluate and select Japanese language materials in all subject areas, formats, and media, including electronic; manage acquisitions funds, prepare requests for funds, and expend funds; select materials for storage or withdrawal, preservation, microfilming, or digitization; review and redefine collection policy to meet the teaching and research needs of faculty and students; anticipate subject areas and types of materials that should be collected; work with the Director to identify and initiate applications for grant funds to improve access to, or conservation of, the Japanese collection.</p>
<p>The incumbent will provide reference and consultation services for scholars and students in Japanese studies; respond to individual queries and conduct bibliographic instruction as requested; work with EAL’s Technical Services unit to create and maintain name authority files for the Japanese collection.</p>
<p>The incumbent may supervise a bibliographical assistant and represent the Library in cooperative programs and special projects concerning Japanese collections and materials.</p>
<p>UC Berkeley librarians are expected to participate in library-wide planning and governance, to work effectively in a shared decision-making environment and to be active professionally. Professional contributions beyond the primary responsibilities are required for advancement in the Librarian series. The successful candidate will show promise or evidence of such contributions.</p>
<p><strong>Qualifications:<br />
Required: </strong><br />
Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent degree<br />
Expert knowledge of spoken and written Japanese (modern and classical)<br />
Knowledge of Japanese scholarship, publishing, government documents, and the book trade<br />
Subject background and training in Japanese history, literature, or an appropriate discipline<br />
Current knowledge of Japan’s e-publishing industry and online resources suitable to an academic context<br />
Familiarity with various systems for romanizing Japanese, especially the Hepburn system<br />
Excellent oral and written skills in English<br />
Ability to work well with staff of diverse backgrounds<br />
Strong commitment to excellence in service and a demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, in a complex, changing environment</p>
<p><strong>Preferred:</strong><br />
Advanced academic degree in Japanese history, literature, or a related field<br />
Previous work experience in a research library, preferably with East Asian language materials</p>

<p>Reporting to the Deputy University Librarian and Chief Administrative Officer the Director of  Library Public Programs manages all aspects of events, programs, and activities at all campus libraries that are part of the UCLA Library system.  This includes events and activities organized by library personnel; by faculty, staff, and students in departments, centers, and organizations across campus; and by individuals with external organizations.  The Director of Library Public Programs conceptualizes and manages library programming with measurable learning objectives, including conferences, symposia, and academic events held in the new conference center in the renovated Charles E. Young Research Library, and  manages Library Award  and Fellowship Programs. Working closely with the Director of Library Development, the Director of Library Communications, the Director of Special Collections, and the Head of Collections, Reference and Instructional Services (CRIS), responsibilities of the Director of Public Programs include project planning, logistical organization, budgeting, communications, and implementation.  The Director of Public Programs collaborates with the Director of Library Communications on research, production, and programming responsibilities related to exhibits in the Research Library and in other campus libraries and with the development and deployment of content for electronic signage in the Research Library and various Web outlets. The Director of Public Programs is responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and ensuring the flow of content to electronic signage in the Research Library and various Web outlets.</p>
<p>The Library Public Programs Unit supports the University Library&#8217;s Strategic Plan and objectives by promoting the collections, people, and services of the University Library, and by building collaborative programming that advances the teaching and learning goals of UCLA. The Unit provides members of the UCLA community and the greater Los Angeles community opportunities to engage with and enrich one another&#8217;s lives. The Unit manages all aspects of programs, events, and activities at all campus libraries that constitute the UCLA Library system. This includes events and activities organized by library personnel; by faculty, staff, and students from campus departments and organizations; and by individuals from external organizations. The Unit works closely with staff and directors within the Library to help nurture and develop ideas for events, and also to provide and ensure collaborative project planning, logistical organization, budgeting, communications, publicity, and implementation. The Unit manages and coordinates events held in all UCLA Library spaces and venues and Library-organized events scheduled in other locations. The Unit develops and articulates learning objectives for programs and events, prepares post event analysis and statistical evaluation. The Unit manages UCLA Library award and fellowship programs, including the Robert B. and Blanche Campbell Student Book Collection Competition, the John B. Jackson Oral History Curator Grant, the Charles Donald O&#8217;Malley and James and Sylvia Thayer Short-Term Research Fellowships, the Marie Saito Scholarship, and the UCLA Library Prize for Undergraduate Research. The Unit supports the creation and maintenance of Charles E. Young Research Library electronic environmental signage and develops and provides the flow of electronic content to YRL signage points and Web outlets. The Unit supports the Library Exhibits Program, including research, production, publicity, and events. The Unit consists of one full time Director and one .50 FTE staff member reporting to the Director, and receives support for event logistics from staff members in the library venue where events occur.</p>
<p>Qualifications<br />
•	Bachelor&#8217;s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 5 years experience with all aspects of event management.</p>
<p>•	Understanding of the academic environment, including the differing needs and interests of faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students, and awareness of the multiple priorities, internal and external constituencies, funding limitations, and public obligations of a public research university.</p>
<p>•	Outstanding organizational and analytical skills to manage multiple projects and perform efficiently and courteously in a fast-paced environment with a fluctuating workload, conflicting and competing priorities, and frequent distractions and interruptions.</p>

<p>The Contra Costa County Library is recruiting to fill one vacant 32 hour <strong>Community Library Manager</strong> position in Oakley, California.</p>
<p>Contra Costa County operates over 26 community libraries within a 750 square mile area and serves close to 1 million urban, suburban and rural customers with an annual circulation exceeding 7.4 million.</p>
<p>Community Library Managers are responsible for day-to-day administration and operation of a full service community library. Responsibilities include applying individual judgment and influence to manage human, financial and physical resources in a community library and supervise the activities of professional, technical and/or clerical level positions involved in library support and service activities; Plan, develop and implement community library goals, objectives, policies and procedures; collaborate with City staff in the planning and development of library programs and services; assess community library needs and formulate proposals and policies and other duties as assigned.</p>
<p>The Eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for six (6) months.</p>
<p><strong>TYPICAL TASKS</strong><br />
•  Plan, organize and manage the activities of a community library ; ensure the efficient and effective delivery of high quality library services to the general public<br />
•  Plan, develop and implement community library goals, objectives, policies and procedures that reflect the County Library&#8217;s mission and services<br />
•  Act autonomously to develop and maintain relationships with City leaders, community organizations, local businesses, schools, service clubs and &#8220;Friends of the Library&#8221; organizations, and make presentations to these organizations.<br />
•  Collaborate with City staff in the planning and development of library programs and services<br />
•  Plan and prepare the community library&#8217;s budgetary needs; develop budget justification for staffing, service and materials; monitor and reconcile financial resources for county and city, grants, and donations from community organizations, businesses and library friends/foundation organizations<br />
•  Manage professional level librarians, technical and/or clerical staff; exercise independent judgment in the selection, training and evaluation of staff; make assignments and counsel employees on work-related issues and take disciplinary action as necessary in accordance with County and department guidelines and direction, regulations or applicable MOU<br />
•  Manage task forces in the development of County Library policies and procedures, committee projects or special assignments and make recommendations; interpret library policies and procedures to staff and the public<br />
•  Assess community library needs and formulate proposals and policies to support such needs within the County Library and the community<br />
•  Manage building security and maintenance issues which may include surrounding grounds; evaluate architectural drawings to assess new library interior designs, layouts, and circulation needs, and make recommendations<br />
•  Anticipate and recommend computer technology needs and planning, including internet access and software, and web based research services<br />
•  Manage acquisition and collection development, including any specialized collections; participate in centralized collection development to ensure collection materials meet the community&#8217;s needs.</p>
<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</strong><br />
Education: Possession of a Master of Library Science degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association, or equivalent curriculum.</p>
<p>Experience: Two (2) years of full-time equivalent professional/supervisory library experience.<br />
OR<br />
Three (3) years full-time equivalent experience working in a library, which may include two (2) years as support staff, technician or paraprofessional, and at least one (1) year at a professional/supervisory level.</p>

<p>The University of California, Berkeley seeks an energetic and creative student-centered librarian to provide leadership in the development and implementation of online learning tools, resources, and services for the Doe/Moffitt Libraries. The E-Learning Librarian collaborates with library staff, campus staff, and faculty on the development of innovative web-based services and their integration into instruction through the campus learning management system and other instructional platforms. This position also contributes to instruction and reference services.</p>
<p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p>
<p>The E-Learning Librarian supports student learning across disciplines by working with UC Berkeley faculty/staff to facilitate the use of curriculum-specific information resources, provide access to course-specific online materials, develop and deliver learning objects, and promote use of curriculum-based information resources. This librarian will also participate in reference, information literacy instruction, and library committees as well as campus and professional activities.</p>
<p>The E-Learning Librarian will routinely monitor trends in emerging technologies and identify possible uses in library services. The incumbent will be engaged in a wide range of initiatives related to online and distance learning UC- and campus-wide and as such, must remain informed about new trends and practices in these areas. As appropriate, the E-Learning Librarian will provide training to library staff and the campus community on new technologies or resource-related issues, such as fair use and copyright compliance. As the liaison to campus’s Educational Technology Services, the incumbent will be an active participant in campus discussions related to educational technologies and will work actively to integrate Library services into the campus learning management system.</p>
<p>In collaboration with other library staff, the E-Learning Librarian must be proactive in selectively and strategically implementing and marketing emerging technologies that best match our users&#8217; needs and preferences. This position will lead the development, promotion and assessment of digital learning objects and tutorials developed for an array of disciplines. This position will also contribute to the training and support of library colleagues on tutorial software and instructional design and will serve as the project manager for the ongoing development of web-based course and subject guides.</p>
<p>The E-Learning Librarian will participate in the department’s instruction program by presenting course-related instruction and drop-in workshops and will provide up to 10 hours per week of reference services in the Doe/Moffitt Libraries.</p>
<p>UC Berkeley librarians are expected to participate in library-wide planning and governance, to work effectively in a shared decision-making environment and to be active professionally. Professional contributions beyond the primary responsibilities are required for advancement in the Librarian series. The successful candidate will show promise or evidence of such contributions.</p>
<p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p>
<p>Required:<br />
•	MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited library school.<br />
•	Experience teaching library instruction classes in an academic environment, preferably to undergraduate students<br />
•	Familiarity with concepts and goals of information literacy<br />
•	Demonstrated understanding of instructional design principles in an online environment<br />
•	Demonstrated knowledge of copyright and fair use principles as they relate to online and distance learning<br />
•	Knowledge of learning technologies and their applications to instruction in a university environment<br />
•	Experience creating instructional and information materials such as online tutorials, surveys, and guides<br />
•	Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills<br />

•	Understanding of web accessibility issues and familiarity with accessibility standards<br />
•	Experience creating interactive and online learning environments<br />
•	Experience or significant coursework in providing reference service, including a broad knowledge of both print and online information sources preferably related to humanities and social sciences in an academic library<br />
•	Experience consulting with instructors and other academic support staff related to course and assignment design<br />
•	Experience using web development applications such as Dreamweaver, Flash, Camtasia and/or Captivate and scripting languages such as JavaScript<br />

<p>The University of California, Berkeley, is seeking a Digital Project Archivist to digitally process various microfilm collections related to the Japanese American War Relocation and Confinement that have been identified as priorities for online access. This is a temporary, two-year appointment. The successful candidate will have experience in digital collection processing, demonstrated understanding of archival description and materials, familiarity with digital project management and web and new media strategies, familiarity with library standards (EAD, METS, MARC, MODS), and strong communications skills.</p>
<p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p>
<p>The Digital Project Archivist will be responsible for digitally processing identified microfilm collections, linking the resulting digital collections to existing finding aid descriptions, ensuring the encoding of the finding aids and digital objects for delivery to the Online Archive of California and the UC3 preservation service, and overseeing creation of a thematic website related to the Japanese American War Relocation and Confinement collections. The Digital Project Archivist will report to the Associate Director and work closely with the Archivist for Digital Collections, and will supervise student library employees as needed. The Digital Project Archivist will work with the Associate Director to fulfill reporting requirements to the granting agency, will work in consultation with curators in the digital processing of the collections, and will work with a Web Designer to develop a thematic website. The Digital Project Archivist will also work with the Principal Cataloger to update collection records in the bibliographic catalog.<br />
UC Berkeley librarians are expected to participate in library-wide planning and governance, to work effectively in a shared decision-making environment and to be active professionally. <p><strong>Qualifications</strong><br />
<em><strong>Required: </strong></em><br />
•	MLS from an ALA-accredited institution, or equivalent degree.<br />
•	Experience in digital collections processing or digital curation.<br />
•	Demonstrated understanding of archival description and materials.<br />

•	Familiarity with Encoded Archival Description (EAD), Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard (METS), Machine Readable Cataloging (MARC), and Metadata Object Description Schema (MODS).<br />

•	Proficiency with Microsoft Access and Excel.<br />
•	Ability to lift 40-pound boxes.<br />

•	Undergraduate degree in history (especially US or Western US history).<br />
•	Digital processing experience, including description, digitization, and authoring of EAD finding aids and METS digital objects.<br />
•	Experience using WebGenDB or similar digital content management system.</p>
