Biola University was founded in 1908 as the Bible Institute of Los Angeles and is a Protestant, theologically conservative, private Christian university located in Southern California. Biola University&#8217;s mission is to provide biblically centered education, scholarship and service&#8211;equipping men and women in mind and character to impact the world for the Lord Jesus Christ. Biola is a community where all faculty, staff, and students are professing Christians committed to the integration of faith with learning.<span id="more-1834"></span></p>
<p>Biola University is comprised of six schools and offers more than 145 academic programs with degrees ranging from the B.A. to the Ph.D. As the only library for the university, the library serves over 6,200 graduate and undergraduate students as well as approximately 480 faculty members and other university staff.</p>
<p>The attractive 98,000 square foot library building was opened in the fall of 2001 and is strategically located in the heart of the Biola campus. The library has an annual operating budget of approximately $2.9 million and employs 9 librarians and 12 support staff as well as numerous student workers.</p>
<p><strong>Position Summary</strong><br />
The Dean of the Library leads the library in its mission, vision, goals, and objectives to meet the information, study, and research needs of the university. Leadership will be demonstrated through strategic planning and strong collaborative relationships with the Provost, Vice Provosts, academic deans, and other administrative leaders. Requires strong oral, written, organizational and interpersonal skills, along with good computer skills (Knowledge or experience of archival management software desirable). <p>Loyola Marymount University seeks an innovative, service-oriented librarian for the position of Education Librarian at the William H. Hannon Library. This is a full-time, temporary appointment through May 31, 2012.<span id="more-1562"></span></p>
<p>Loyola Marymount, founded in 1911, is a comprehensive university in the mainstream of American Catholic higher education.  Located on the west side of Los Angeles overlooking the Pacific Ocean, LMU is one of the nation’s 28 Jesuit colleges and universities and five Marymount institutions.  It serves 5,500 undergraduates and over 2,000 graduate students in the Colleges/Schools of Liberal Arts, Science and Engineering, Business Administration, Communication and Fine Arts, Film and Television, Education, and Law. <p><strong>Responsibilities</strong><br />
The Education Librarian will support the research and information needs of the LMU School of Education, which serves K-12 professionals and is accredited by the National Council for Teacher Education. This position will perform a Library Needs Assessment on the School of Education to identify existing gaps and recommend ideal levels of resources and service.  The Education Librarian will also help develop and shape the library’s collections for Education through the identification and selection of print and electronic resources that support the School of Education’s curriculum, including a separate Curriculum Materials Collection that includes children’s literature.  The position will contribute to a newly developed Education collection development policy.</p>
<p>The successful candidate will provide face-to-face reference and instruction to the School of Education through individual consultations and class presentations; and web-based instructional support through the creation and maintenance of web pages, tutorials, or other online tools.  The librarian in this position will contribute to general reference and computing support for the William H. Hannon Library through work at the Information Desk.  The Education Librarian reports to the Head of Reference &amp; Instructional Services.</p>
<p>Other position specific accountabilities include:<br />
o	Works between 2 and 10 hours per week at the Information Desk, including some work on evenings, weekends, and holidays.<br />
o	Liaison to departmental faculty in Education.<br />
o	May perform syllabi audit on the School of Education.<br />
o	May assist the Reference Department in the instructional design of new core curriculum materials, if appropriate.</p>
<p><strong>Qualifications</strong><br />
The ideal candidate will have broad knowledge of current trends in K-12 and higher education, along with experience in reference, instruction, and collection development in an academic library.</p>
<p>Educational Requirements: Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited institution is required.  Bachelor’s degree in the field of Education or a related social sciences discipline.</p>
<p>Experience:  Evidence of knowledge of basic K-12 and higher education reference sources.  Knowledge of library instruction/information literacy and collection development practices in libraries.  Excellent oral and written communication skills.  Proficiency with Windows and Macintosh operating systems and knowledge of basic productivity software.  Working knowledge of emerging technologies critical to the design and delivery of library services.</p>
<p>Preferred:  Educational design experience; Advanced degree in Education or a related field.</p>

<p>Loyola Marymount University seeks an energetic, self-directed entry-level librarian for the position of Librarian-in-Residence.  This is a full-time, two-year visiting appointment.<span id="more-1566"></span></p>
<p>Loyola Marymount, founded in 1911, is a comprehensive university in the mainstream of American Catholic higher education.  Located on the west side of Los Angeles overlooking the Pacific Ocean, LMU is one of the nation’s 28 Jesuit colleges and universities and five Marymount institutions.  It serves 5,500 undergraduates and over 2,000 graduate students in the Colleges/Schools of Liberal Arts, Science and Engineering, Business Administration, Communication and Fine Arts, Film and Television, Education, and Law.  The William H. Hannon Library (http://library.lmu.edu) was opened in 2009 and serves as the intellectual and cultural hub of the university. <p>The William H. Hannon Library Librarian-in-Residence Program offers an entry-level librarian an opportunity to begin a career in academic librarianship.  The program reflects the library’s and university’s commitment to achieving inclusive excellence and ethnic and racial diversity among our staff, including our librarians.  The Resident will receive the full advantage of a librarian appointment, including financial support for professional development, plus mentorship and the opportunity to learn about specialization within the profession.</p>
<p><strong>Responsibilities</strong>:<br />
The residency will provide an overview of professional library work through four-month assignments in four functional areas, three during the first year and one in the second year, with one of those areas being Reference &amp; Instruction. The other three areas – including the possibility of digital projects, archives, special collections, assessment as well as cataloging, media, or library systems &#8211; will be determined mutually by the Resident’s interests and the needs of the library.  During the latter half of the second year, the Resident will return to one of the functional areas for further specialization.  The Resident will have the opportunity to engage in professional development and service activities in the library, on campus, and in the wider academic library community.</p>
<p><strong>Qualifications</strong>:<br />
Required:  Recent graduate (fewer than two years of professional experience) of an ALA-accredited master’s degree program in library and information science; strong interest in academic librarianship and willingness to spend time working in public services, despite other specialized goals; commitment to professional development and service; excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, and presentation skills; ability to be flexible and adaptable to a variety of work environments; commitment to diversity.  Preferred:  Bilingual English/Spanish</p>
