<p>Description of Duties and Tasks</p>
<p>Essential Job Functions</p>
<p>1. Manage daily operations of library automated system and related software.<br />
2. Oversees the writing and programming of custom reports and scripts for undertaking routine and non-routine maintenance database tasks using API tools, or a similar reporting and database modification language.<br />
3. Maintain contact with vendors for purposes of technical support, reporting computer bugs and resolving library needs. Serve as a resource for all system/network problems and questions, consulting with vendors or conducting research to solve problems in-house.<br />
4. Identify and initiate resolutions to user problems and concerns associated with library systems.<br />
5. Maintain documentation on project status and prepare weekly reports of problems, concerns, or changes in resource requirements for the Associate Director of Information and Electronic Services.<br />
6. Maintain content of the library Web pages.<br />
7. Assist in the production of training materials related to new library system features and create documentation for department procedures.<br />
8. Install software upgrades, including loading vendor program releases, training staff, and implementing internal procedures/policy changes required.<br />
9. Serve as a liaison between the Library and relevant staff in the Information Technology Department on issues affecting Library applications.</p>
<p>Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p>
<p>Individuals must possess the knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.</p>
<p>1. Strong project management skills: ability to manage technical projects in a library setting with demonstrated capabilities in terms of project planning and estimating, work assignment, progress review and reporting.<br />
2. Strong interpersonal skills: Ability to communicate easily and appropriately with both technical staff and non-technical staff at all levels;<br />
3. Ability to problem-solve and have excellent attention to detail.<br />
4. Ability to understand and use programming languages.<br />
5. Ability to work independently, be flexible, and organize workload.</p>
<p>Qualifications</p>
<p>1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science. Masters in Library and Information Science preferred.<br />
2. Experience: Knowledge of computer programming and HTML required. Knowledge of Perl and XML preferred. Experience with SirsiDynix Unicorn/Symphony integrated library system highly desirable.</p>

Verifies carding and shelving of books.<br />
Performs related duties as assigned.</p>
<p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<br />
Basic knowledge of library circulation procedures and a wide range of library services.<br />
Ability to learn the filing and classification systems used in the library; ability to file rapidly and accurately according to detailed guidelines.<br />
Basic typing ability; ability to perform simple calculations, make change, and keep accurate records; ability to learn to operate library equipment.<br />
Ability to follow oral and written directions, and to learn, apply, and explain library policies and procedures.<br />
Ability to relate tactfully and effectively to a large volume of students and staff under time pressure and in sensitive situations, such as the need to search patrons when the library security system is activated.<br />
Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.  An example of this would be completion of high school and work experience in library circulation.<br />
Clear evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.</p>

<p>BASIC FUNCTIONS<br />
The Associate Director for Research and Instruction Services is a senior level management position that has primary responsibility for planning, coordinating, and promoting the research and instruction program in the Gordon Library. This position is a member of the library&#8217;s administrative team and contributes to decisions on policies, operations, and library budget. The Associate Director is also responsible for the overall coordination of library-related instructional activities for the Gordon Library, programs on campus, at project centers, and through distance delivery (ADLN).<br />
- Works closely with faculty to design, develop and teach a variety of classes, workshops and course-integrated instruction.<br />
- Designs and develops online tutorials and provides individual consultations and orientations.<br />
- Provides expertise and support for instructional technologies used in teaching and learning; participates in collection development activities, reference services, and the liaison program.<br />
- Evaluates new and existing library programs, services and resources; compiles/contributes to statistical and other library reports.<br />
Critical skills needed for this position include leadership and the ability to function effectively in a team environment, flexibility and a facility for cross and interdepartmental communications. This position may include evening and weekend hours.</p>
<p>PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES<br />
- Coordinates the Research and Instruction program for the Gordon Library, including librarian/faculty partnerships, pedagogy and teaching style standards, assessment, professional development and projects<br />
- Directly supervises four full-time and two part-time librarians. Mentors all others serving on the Information Desk in areas of instruction and reference as needed<br />
- Develops appropriate instructional materials and comprehensive curricular structure to aid users in accessing resources, using a variety of print and electronic formats<br />
- Gathers and analyzes data to develop recommendations and solutions for the improvement and/or implementation of research instruction services, procedures, and organization; assesses the outcomes of these programs<br />
- Provides reference assistance, instruction, and information to library clientele via the Information Desk, telephone, virtually, and through individual appointments<br />
- Provides classroom, individual and virtual instruction to library clientele focusing on the identification, retrieval, and evaluation of information<br />
- Monitors developments and trends in the delivery of research and instructional services in higher education, specifically in academic libraries<br />
- Serves as a bibliographer and a subject specialist in Sciences and Engineering; additional disciplines may be assigned as necessary.<br />
- Oversees the public image of the library, making sure library publications, signs, web page content and development, are consistent and of high quality. Participates in development and maintenance of library and information technologies that deliver resources to end users<br />

<p>REQUIREMENTS<br />
- American Library Association (ALA)-accredited Masters degree (or equivalent)<br />

- Demonstrated extensive knowledge and understanding of information literacy best practices, pedagogy, current issues, and trends in scholarly communication<br />

<p>The California Judicial Center Library in San Francisco has job openings for one full-time and one part-time (20 hours/week) temporary Assistant Law Librarian I positions. These temporary positions are funded through December 31, 2011. Although funding may be extended beyond December 2011, continued employment in these positions is contingent upon renewed funding.</p>
<p><strong>THE CALIFORNIA JUDICIAL CENTER LIBRARY</strong><br />
The California Judicial Center Library serves the legal information needs of the justices and staff of the California Supreme Court and the California Court of Appeal, First Appellate District; and the staff of the Administrative Office of the Courts.  The Library&#8217;s collection of more than 250,000 volumes is located in San Francisco, Sacramento and Los Angeles.  The Assistant Law Librarians are assigned to the San Francisco location, a 45,000 square foot facility located in the Hiram Johnson State Building, 455 Golden Gate Avenue.</p>
<p>Under the direction of the Director, Library Services, the Assistant Law Librarians I perform a full range of professional law library duties associated with the delivery of legal information, including but not limited to: conducting legal research; responding to reference inquiries; providing instruction in the use of electronic and other published resources; conducting library tours and orientations; developing bibliographies and pathfinders; and designing/updating Web-based information resources for the library’s homepage.</p>

Manages day-to-day operations and facilities, including supervision of departments in conjunction with department coordinators, contributes to library management decisions, long-range planning, program development, budget management, and assessment. <p><strong>Access Services/Music Librarian</strong>. Responsible for public services, collection development, and technical and digital services areas supporting the Conservatory of Music, founded in 1878&#8211;the oldest music school on the West Coast. Develops and delivers on public, digital, and technical services initiatives to include Cataloging &amp; Metadata, Digital Initiatives, and education and outreach to Conservatory students and faculty as well as provide leadership in design and implementation of access services, including circulation and reserves. <p><strong>Electronic Resources/Sciences &amp; Technology Librarian</strong>. Coordinates and manages selection, acquisition, licensing, and evaluation of all electronic resources, including establishing and maintaining budget guidelines for electronic resources and for testing, evaluating, and recommending electronic resources. Develops and delivers innovative public, digital, and collection services that facilitate the curricular and research needs of students and faculty in the sciences, including engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, and other natural and physical sciences departments (to be determined). Required: ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science.  Academic degree in the natural sciences or engineering discipline, or the demonstrated equivalent gained through experience in an academic science or engineering library. Salary from $50K negotiable.</p>

<p>The Associate Dean for User Services, Research and Scholarly Resources, supports the San Jose State University Library&#8217;s mission and goals by providing high level leadership in developing and enhancing library operations. The Associate Dean must work successfully with faculty, staff, students, and other administrators to articulate and implement the Library&#8217;s mission, vision, and philosophy. The Associate Dean exhibits solid management skills, effectiveness in resource management, and the ability to build partnerships within the University, throughout the California State University system and with the San Jose Public Library community. The Associate Dean exhibits a clear understanding of California and national trends in education, with emphasis on management of library service operations and library collections.</p>
<p>The Associate Dean serves on the Dean&#8217;s Senior Management Team and is in charge of the Library in the Dean&#8217;s absence. The Associate Dean works with the Dean, the Associate Dean for Digital Futures, and the Library&#8217;s Administrative Officer, and supervises Reference and Academic Services, Access Services, Collection Development, Special Collections, Library Instruction, and the Scholarly Communication Initiative. <p>The Associate Dean collaborates with the San Jose Public Library (SJPL) to implement a shared vision and to effectively offer quality services and resources to both the University and the broader San Jose community. The Associate Dean manages employees within a collective bargaining environment.</p>
<p>Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</p>
<p>- Providing leadership for the University Library’s user services, research program and scholarly resources.<br />

<p>The Reference Librarian will be responsible for providing research service and computing support for the William H. Hannon Library.  The Reference Librarian works at the Information Desk and participates in virtual reference.  The Reference Librarian provides library instruction to the LMU community, teaching at least 20 classes in the Fall semester.  The Reference Librarian will also provide collection development in assigned subject areas; create web-based instructional materials; and assist with Reference Department projects, assessment, and decision-making.  The Reference Librarian reports to the Head of Reference &amp; Instructional Services.</p>
<p>Other position specific accountabilities are as follows:</p>
<p>o	Works between 6 and 12 hours per week at the Information Desk, including some work on evenings, weekends, and holidays.</p>
<p>o	Assists in the creation of internal training documentation for the Reference and Instruction Department, including updating the Library Wiki.</p>
<p>o	Helps supervise student workers at the Information Desk, and assists in the creation, maintenance, and implementation of all training materials for student workers at the Information Desk.</p>
<p>o	Liaison to departmental faculty in specific subject areas.</p>
<p>o	Provides occasional library tours.</p>
<p>o	Serves the University through internal and external committee membership.</p>
<p>o	Pursues professional development opportunities.</p>
<p>The ideal candidate will have broad knowledge of current trends in higher education and academic libraries along with experience in reference, instruction, and collection development in an academic library.</p>
<p>Educational Requirements:  A Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited institution is preferred, but related master&#8217;s degree with appropriate experience may be substituted.</p>
<p>Experience:  Evidence of knowledge of basic reference sources and reference practices.  Knowledge of library instruction/information literacy and collection development practices in academic libraries.  Excellent oral and written communication skills.  Proficiency with Windows and Macintosh operating systems and knowledge of basic productivity software.  Working knowledge of emerging technologies critical to the design and delivery of library services.</p>
<p>Preferred:  Educational design experience; visual data/graphics software experience (such as Photoshop or Illustrator); academic background in the Sciences.</p>
<p>Hiring Salary: minimum $50,820; commensurate with experience and salary history.</p>

Requirements:<br />
You must have implemented recent web-based applications using LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, Perl/PHP) based solutions. Will maintain and extend existing library applications as needed by library staff and end users</p>
<p>MLS in Library Science is required, as is experience in systems librarianship and a strong curiosity for identifying and implementing cutting-edge software in the corporate environment.<br />
Ability to work within a Linux command shell environment.<br />
Knowledge of Wikipedia and MediaWiki syntax is a must.<br />
An understanding of the MediaWiki backend system and configuration scripts, databases tables and extensions is required.<br />
Must have 3 years of consecutive IT experience supporting library systems (academic or research).</p>
