The Position

The University of California, Irvine Libraries seeks a skilled professional for the position of Processing Archivist in the Department of Special Collections & Archives. The Processing Archivist will be responsible for accessioning and processing archival materials relating to Orange County, California history. This full-time temporary position will be for 15 months from the date of hire.

The ambitious and flexible incumbent of this NEW POSITION will perform a variety of related duties with library collections and will play a leading role in creating electronic archiving and records management programs. While assisting with the overall program of special collections, has particular responsibility for gathering, processing, and describing materials in all formats generated by the College and for advanced creation of metadata about all collections at the College. ALA-accredited master’s degree in library/information science together with archival certification or a concentration in archival management, or their equivalent in training and experience; knowledge of archival and records management practices, data structures and standards,
and options for delivering archival collections to users. Ability to
interpret collections to users by way of course-related or research
