			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The University of La Verne invites applications for Librarian (Assistant Professor), a non-tenure track 12-month faculty appointment.  <span id="more-115"></span>The responsibilities of this position include providing research consultation services to library users in a multi-disciplinary environment using multiple formats (in-person, e-mail, phone, and chat); developing, promoting, delivering, and evaluating effective library research skills/information, literacy instructional sessions, seminars and workshops for both on-campus and off-campus programs; serving as a subject specialist, developing the collection in an assigned area by selecting materials for acquisition in all formats; serving as a liaison with appropriate academic departments, and evaluating current or new digital resource; cooperating as a team member with the library faculty and staff in performing any professional or nonprofessional duty essential to the achievement of effective library operations; maintaining a program of professional development that would include professional reading, conference attendance, participating in professional organizations and other activities.  Additional duties include working evenings and weekends as required, on a rotational basis, with other library faculty and traveling to off-campus locations for instruction appointments as requested with travel expense paid.</p>
<p>The position requires a master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association.  Necessary capabilities for the position include excellent reference skills, including database searching; strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and expertise with the Internet; effective written and oral communications skills; an understanding of academic collection development practices; the ability to function flexibly in a team environment; and instructional skills to collaborate with faculty and provide information literacy and critical thinking instruction.  Hiring salary is commensurate with experience, and departmental equity.  Benefits of employment include a comprehensive health and welfare plan, tuition program and a generous 10% contribution to the university’s 403-B retirement plan.</p>

Subject areas for the College include marketing, management, economics, finance, and information systems.</p>
<p>The librarian participates and collaborates in the Library’s extensive information literacy liaison program, including planning, teaching, and assessing library sessions for specific CSULA classes, workshops, and the for-credit library skills course in basic and specialized research resources. Provides reference and research assistance during regularly scheduled hours at the Reference Desk, via digital reference, and by appointment for students, staff, and faculty.  Reference responsibilities include some evening and weekend hours.</p>
<p>Minimum Qualifications: MLS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited library school.  Strong user services orientation and enthusiasm for public service. Knowledge of instructional and reference methods and information resources in the area of business and economics. Demonstrated potential for effective teaching. Proven ability and experience in using academic electronic and print resources in general and the specified subject areas. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing in English. <p>Desired Qualifications: Two years experience in an academic library in the area of business. Experience with assessment and instructional design in an academic setting. Demonstrated teaching experience and familiarity with information literacy standards and outcomes as they reflect current library teaching practice. Experience with learning management systems (e.g., WebCT). Experience in creating and maintaining web pages and/or using authoring and presentation tools. An advanced degree, substantial coursework or background/work experience in business and/or related areas, (e.g. finance, marketing, law, and management).</p>

<p>The Position<br />
The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a Library Services Specialist for Chabot College in Hayward. Under direction, the specialist assumes responsibility for assisting in managing the operations and budget of the Library and performs a variety of specialized technical and complex tasks of varying degrees of difficulty and responsibility in support of various Library functions and service areas (s).  The position reports directly to the Dean, Language Arts.</p>
<p>Assignment/Salary<br />
The position is full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., 12 mo/yr. Employment will begin on or about September 16, 2008. The salary is $4,938.33/mo. (Range 45, Funding: 100% District).</p>
<p>Minimum Qualifications</p>
<p>Education and Experience: Equivalent to completion of high school with additional education in library science or a related field AND five years of responsible technical library experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience that indicates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully accomplish the work.</p>
<p>Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and/or learning disabilities.</p>
<p>Knowledge of: Library systems, terminology, procedures, equipment, products, and services; budgeting principles and practices; purchasing principles and practices; principles of staff supervision, training and evaluation; record keeping and report preparation principles and practices; proper English usage, grammar, spelling, and vocabulary; modern office methods, procedures, practices, and equipment including personal computers and related software including office applications, accounting/financial systems, and Library automation software; interpersonal relationship skills using tact, patience, courtesy, and diplomacy; standard operating practices associated with the assigned work area(s).</p>
<p>Skill in:  Operating a variety of office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and specialized Library applications; and entering, modifying, and retrieving data using a computer at a speed necessary for successful job performance.</p>
<p>Ability to:  Manage the day-to-day operations of the Library and oversee classified staff in the absence of the Library Coordinator; assist in managing the operations and budgets of the Library; assist in analyzing all library operations and providing recommendations for improvement; participate in the development and implementation of Library policies and procedures; oversee assigned Library area(s), functions, and services; perform specialized technical work with accuracy and speed under minimal supervision; demonstrate a pleasant demeanor and service-oriented attitude and behavior in assisting students, faculty, and the general public; perform a full range of Library duties in an automated environment; retrieve, create, edit, maintain, and update records, files, and documents using automated Library software, databases, word processing, and other standard office applications; work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment with constant interruptions; work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment; independently follow through and complete assignments within specified deadlines accurately and efficiently; use judgment in organizing and prioritizing work;  schedule, supervise, review, and evaluate the work of assigned student assistants and other assigned staff; understand and follow oral and written instructions; relate effectively to people of varied backgrounds; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.</p>

<p>Desirable Qualifications<br />
Experience in a community college or other academic library setting; experience working with vendors to order Books, Audiovisual, Periodical and database materials; experience with the Sirsi integrated library system or another similar system that includes experience using the Acquisition and Serials Management Modules; experience supervising student workers.</p>
<p>Representative Duties<br />
Assist in managing the operations and budgets of the Library; assist in analyzing all Library operations and providing recommendations for improvement; participate in the development and implementation of Library policies and procedures; assist in notification and implementation of policies and procedures from the District office;<br />
in the absence of the Library Coordinator, manage the day-to-day operations of the Library; oversee classified staff and serve as a resource to other classified staff to resolve operational issues; serve as a liaison to management staff to resolve major issues; maintain schedule of Library personnel;<br />
assist in maintaining annual budget for Library funds including categorical and regular funds; assume day-to-day management of all Library budget accounts; serve as liaison between Chabot and Las Positas Libraries in budgeting issues related to the shared library system;<br />
utilize the District’s computerized accounting system; input orders for assigned areas; research availability of funds for the Library; resolve discrepancies and determine balances of unencumbered funds;<br />
order equipment, software, and services for shared library system; enter into District system.<br />
assign appropriate account number to library expenditures; review library requisitions for accuracy and sufficient funding; authorize invoices for payment;<br />
assist Library Coordinator and division administrators to ensure special money awarded to Library is properly spent in a timely manner;<br />
assist with and provide information and assistance related to a variety of personnel and payroll duties; manage personnel and payroll forms for the Library; review and process monthly timesheets including those for student assistants, classified staff, and hourly faculty; update part-time librarian salary step increase information;<br />
schedule library orientations; coordinate submitted class assignment and instructor needs with available timeslots of both librarian and classroom;<br />
perform acquisitions duties; coordinate requests, assign purchase order numbers, and order library books;<br />
manage Library standing orders and periodical and microfilm subscriptions; claim missing issues/publications; maintain order records;<br />
order and maintain records for electronic database subscriptions;<br />
oversee procedures for ordering audiovisual materials;<br />
oversee the selection and ordering of supplies used in the library;<br />
reconcile materials received with invoicing; resolve discrepancies;<br />
return materials; follow-up on late shipments;<br />
oversee periodical check-in;<br />
maintain a variety of records and files; prepare necessary correspondence and reports including those requested by county, state, and federal agencies;<br />
support overall library operations and services through projects and other duties as appropriate and assigned;<br />
attend professional development courses as appropriate; and<br />
perform other related tasks as required.</p>

<p>Posting Description<br />
This is a full-time tenure-track faculty position reporting to the Associate Dean, Library and Learning Resources. Full-time GCC library faculty are expected to participate in a variety of program areas, including information competency instruction, reference service, web-based services for distance learners, collection development, library technology and technical services. These assignments may be reallocated periodically, and assignments may depend on the interests and qualification of the successful applicant for this position.<br />
This position is for the 10-month academic year with the possibility of an additional 5 week summer or 6 week winter session for additional pay. Full-time library faculty work 35 hours per week, and assignments may include evening and weekend hours and/or work at other GCC locations in addition to the main campus.<br />
The GCC Library is a fast-paced, student-centered, teaching library. The successful candidate will be able to work collaboratively in a team environment and have skills in instruction, reference, information technology, electronic resources, collection development and technical services. Excellent written and verbal skills are a must.</p>
<p>Job Description<br />
Major Duties and Responsibilities<br />
1. Provide leadership, planning and coordination for the library credit instruction program including developing and revising curriculum, promoting and teaching library classes, orientations, workshops and infusions in both classroom and online environments.<br />
2. Work collaboratively to plan, develop, and deliver instruction in information competency.<br />
3. Produce high quality online and print instructional and other materials in a timely manner.<br />
4. Provide reference services to library users, both in person and online.<br />
5. Apply new information technologies to the innovative delivery of library services, resources and instruction to on site and distance learners including those at other GCC locations.<br />
6. Participate in the selection and maintenance of the library&#8217;s collections, both electronic and print.<br />
7. Serve as liaison with faculty in assigned disciplines.<br />
8. Participate in general planning and development of library programs, policies and procedures.<br />
9. Participate in college governance and professional organizations.<br />
10. Perform other duties as assigned.</p>
<p>Minimum Qualifications<br />
Master&#8217;s degree in library science or library and information science from an ALA-accredited institution OR the equivalent.</p>

1. Second master&#8217;s degree, additional course work, or special interest in a subject field.<br />
2. Knowledge of and experience with new directions in libraries, new technologies for information communication, content creation, curriculum development and library instruction.<br />

Step placement within the appropriate column is determined by Article VIII of the Collective Bargaining agreement. Assist in managing the operations and budgets of the Library; assist in analyzing all Library operations and providing recommendations for improvement; participate in the development and implementation of Library policies and procedures; assist in notification and implementation of policies and procedures from the District office;<br />

In the absence of the Library Coordinator, manage the day-to-day operations of the Library; oversee classified staff and serve as a resource to other classified staff to resolve operational issues; serve as a liaison to management staff to resolve major issues; maintain schedule of Library personnel;<br />

Assist in maintaining annual budget for Library funds including categorical and regular funds; assume day-to-day management of all Library budget accounts; serve as liaison between Chabot and Las Positas Libraries in budgeting issues related to the shared library system;<br />

Utilize the District’s computerized accounting system; input orders for assigned areas; research availability of funds for the Library; resolve discrepancies and determine balances of unencumbered funds;<br />

Order equipment, software, and services for shared library system; enter into District system;<br />

Assign appropriate account number to library expenditures; review library requisitions for accuracy and sufficient funding; authorize invoices for payment;<br />

Assist Library Coordinator and division administrators to ensure special money awarded to Library is properly spent in a timely manner;</p>
<p>* Assist with and provide information and assistance related to a variety of personnel and payroll duties; manage personnel and payroll forms for the Library; review and process monthly timesheets including those for student assistants, classified staff, and hourly faculty; update part-time librarian salary step increase information;<br />
* Schedule library orientations; coordinate submitted class assignment and instructor needs with available time slots of both librarian and classroom;<br />
* Perform acquisitions duties; coordinate requests, assign purchase order numbers, and order library books;<br />
* Manage Library standing orders and periodical and microfilm subscriptions; claim missing issues/publications; maintain order records;<br />
* Order and maintain records for electronic database subscriptions;<br />
* Oversee procedures for ordering audiovisual materials;<br />
* Oversee the selection and ordering of supplies used in the library;<br />
* Reconcile materials received with invoicing; resolve discrepancies;<br />
* Return materials; follow-up on late shipments;<br />
* Oversee periodical check-in;<br />
* Maintain a variety of records and files; prepare necessary correspondence and reports including those requested by county, state, and federal agencies;<br />
* Support overall library operations and services through projects and other duties as appropriate and assigned;<br />
* Attend professional development courses as appropriate; and<br />

<p>A full-time faculty position reporting to the Director of Library Services, the Systems Librarian holds a leadership role in the planning, development, and management of the Library’s technological infrastructure, electronic resources, and web presence in support of learning, teaching, and research.</p>
<p>Responsibilities:  Shared responsibilities within a team environment include instruction in credit-bearing Information Literacy courses, reference, collection development, and outreach to faculty and students in assigned areas.  As a member of the faculty, the systems Librarian is also expected to participate in university service appropriate to faculty and to engage in appropriate scholarly and professional activities.</p>
<p>Required Qualifications:  An ALA accredited MLS, or equivalent degree; and three years of professional library experience, preferably in an academic library.  Experience with the administration of integrated library systems; knowledge of web design and usability principles; demonstrated ability to develop valid web pages.  Commitment to the promotion of a culture of outstanding public service in a learner-centered environment; strong analytical and problem solving skills; excellent communication and supervisory skills.  Interest in evolving information technologies, particularly as applied to discover and access tools, and integrated library systems.  Demonstrated ability to meet university requirements for faculty contract renewal and promotion through excellence in librarianship, professional and scholarly activity, and university service.</p>
<p>Desired Qualifications: Knowledge of SIRSI integrated library system; liaison experience with database vendors; cataloging experience; experience in teaching credit-bearing courses; collection development experience or background in business, architecture, graphic design, or physical sciences; and experience in development and maintenance of digital repository systems.</p>
<p>Salary:  Faculty rank and salary is commensurate with academic preparation and professional experience based on a 12-month appointment.</p>
