DESCRIPTION: The University of Redlands Armacost Library seeks a highly motivated and innovative candidate for the position of Business Librarian/Online Learning Librarian to provide collection management, research assistance, instruction, and outreach services to students, faculty, staff and community users. The position works as liaison to the College of Arts and Sciences Department of Business Administration and to the School of Business on the Redlands campus and at regional centers.
The Business Librarian is a leader in planning and developing business-related library services and collections; provides instruction and consultation on effective discovery and use of information resources; collaborates as an engaged, knowledgeable liaison with faculty and students to develop their awareness of the complex and changing scholarly information environment; collaborates in collection management for business, developing print and digital collections, evaluating and selecting relevant business information resources, evaluating and assessing the patron-driven acquisitions program for business; maintains awareness of developments in scholarly communication, intellectual rights, and publishing; spearheads special programs and services for the online learning community and coordinates all library programs and services to University of Redlands School of Business regional centers as Online Learning Librarian.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Business Librarian works individually and as part of a team to contribute to creative and innovative approaches to advancing the Library’s services and programs; participates in scheduled multi-disciplinary reference service, online chat reference, research consultation and outreach activities, including some evening and weekend assignments; participates in an active instructional program; develops and delivers presentations to specialized classes and provides individualized assistance to students and faculty in business-related departments; designs and maintains online guides to specialized library resources.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited MLS. Academic background and/or knowledge of business or related disciplines demonstrated through undergraduate, or advanced degree, coursework, or work experience. Background or strong interest in social sciences data sources. Demonstrated experience in research assistance and library instruction. Ability to create instructional materials and utilize web design tools to facilitate instructional goals. Understanding of current and emerging trends in business scholarship and the ways in which scholars in the field produce and use information resources. A strong commitment to excellence in public service and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative and culturally diverse environment. Demonstrated initiative and flexibility. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff and community users.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Two to three years professional experience in an academic library. Strong knowledge of emerging technologies, and the ability to apply these technologies to a diverse range of library applications.
