|The Contra Costa County Library is seeking to fill one part-time (32 hours per week) position for Library Literacy Assistant. The incumbent in this position will assist with volunteer recruitment, training and support activities, provide program information, and promote library literacy programs through various media.
The Library Literacy Assistant will be responsible for recruiting and training volunteers, conducting student in-take interviews, recommending appropriate methods and materials to tutors, maintaining records and gathering data, assisting with special events including Families for Literacy, contributing to newsletters, overseeing the library literacy lab, and representing library literacy programs at meetings.
The individual appointed to this position must possess the ability to relate positively with various multi-cultural communities; plan, organize, and work independently; communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; and establish harmonious working relationships with staff, volunteers, community groups and representatives. Teaching experience is highly desirable. Appointee must be available to work at least one night a week and approximately 13 Saturdays a year. The Contra Costa County Library is seeking to fill one part-time (32 hours per week) position for Library Literacy Assistant. The eligible list established as a result of this examination may be in effect for six months.
|· Assist with student and tutor recruitment, training and support activities
· Help gather and submit surveys and data for required reports
· Provide basic program information to interested parties
· Contribute to bi-monthly newsletters and special events
· Oversee the literacy computer lab
· Promote library literacy programs through various media
· Represent library literacy programs at meetings
· Maintain accurate records
· Participate in staff meetings and in-services
|License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator’s license will be accepted during the application process.
Education/Experience Options: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in education, speech pathology and audiology, psychology, communications, humanities, social science or behavioral science field; or 200 hours of previous tutoring experience in an established literacy program and possession of either 1) 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university or 2) certification as a teacher.

2. Application Evaluation: Depending on the number of applications received, an Application Evaluation Board may be convened to evaluate and select the best-qualified candidates for invitation to the next phase of the examination.
3. Oral Interview: An oral interview will be conducted by a Qualifications Appraisal Board in Martinez, CA. The Board will evaluate candidates in job-related areas. Candidates must receive a rating of at least 70 from a majority of the Board members to be ranked on the employment list. (Weighted 100%)
