The Dudley Knox Library at the Naval Postgraduate School (located in Monterey, California; http://www.nps.edu/library ) will soon be recruiting for 2 positions under the Presidential Pathways for Students internship program.  Jobs will be posted on the USAJobs website [ http://www.usajobs.gov/ ] and are typically open and accepting applications for a few days. Put your coursework and experience “to work” while contributing to the graduate education of approximately 3,000 resident and distance learning student-officers and civilians from the US and allied nations. Dudley Knox Library at the Naval Postgraduate School provides an opportunity to gain experience in a higher-education library while simultaneously exploring the wide array of library and information management jobs available in US federal service.   
 
TECHNICAL INFORMATION SPECIALIST (ELECTRONIC COLLECTIONS) ~ 1412 GS-7

Incumbent coordinates activities associated with evaluation, licensing, access, discovery and management of digital resources (commercially procured and locally produced) required to support instruction and research in a graduate level academic library.

LIBRARIAN (SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATION) ~ 1410 GS-7

Incumbent manages and coordinates library-specific systems and tools such as open source and commercial off the shelf software, hardware, applications and peripherals for a variety of systems serving a graduate level academic library.

To be considered, candidates must be enrolled in a graduate library and/or information management program and will apply the basic principles learned through this graduate coursework and/or practical academic library experience in one or more of these areas:

  • E-RESOURCES SERVICES (including: licensing; trouble-shooting; statistical and usage analysis; visual display of complex data; spreadsheet, database, and scripting skills)
  • WEB SERVICES (including: usability; design; content; information architecture; mobile apps; programming and scripting skills (HTML, PHP, Perl and Java); PC, MAC and UNIX; project management)
  • METADATA SERVICES (including: AACR2; Dublin Core; MARC; Library of Congress Subject Headings; spreadsheet, reporting, and scripting skills)
