The Chair of Instructional Services provides direction, supervision, and leadership, and maintains administrative/supervisory oversight of librarians and staff in the Instructional Services Division which includes Instruction, Reference, and Assessment. The Chair is a member of the senior administrative team and maintains confidentiality in all personnel and budgetary matters.

The Chair provides service to the library, university and profession, to develop professionally by participating in creative and scholarly projects, and to work collegially with members of the Library Management Council by participating in library planning and assessment. The Chair of Instructional Services provides leadership toward goals and objectives as developed by the library administration and librarians.

The Chair will participate in reference, instruction, collection development and be a liaison to specified subject areas, based on professional specialization or organizational needs, in addition to serving on library and university committees. Other duties as assigned.

Specific Job Requirements:

  • A.L.A. accredited M.L.S. degree.
  • Demonstrated professional experience in reference services and library instruction preferably in an academic library or medium size or larger public library setting.
  • Ability to direct, supervise and evaluate the work of other employees or student employees.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices and trends in information literacy, instructional methodologies and assessment.
  • Experience in teaching, lecturing or presenting to individuals, groups or workshops.
