Position Summary:

The SoCal Campus Librarian works closely with the library leadership and the TCS Education System Librarian to support the mission of the University through collaboration on all aspects of library resources and services.

Principle Duties:

  • Provide vision and strategic direction for the SoCal libraries in alignment with the TCSPP Libraries and institutional strategic plan and vision.
  • Plan, implement and administer library resources and services, including resource instruction and course guides, for students, faculty and staff on the SoCal campuses, in a context of continuous improvement.
  • Manage the local library resources and participate in the TCS Education System collection development task force and other shared projects and initiatives.
  • Participate in the ongoing assessment and evaluation of local and shared resources and services for student learning and faculty effectiveness.
  • Hire, supervise, train and evaluate SoCal campus professional library personnel and student graduate assistants.
  • Develop strong partnerships within the campuses to advocate for and promote library services.
  • Prepare and monitor annual campus library materials budget.
  • Participate in collection development activities, including the identification and evaluation of high-quality, relevant online databases and reliable digital resources.
  • Serve on Campus-wide committees and participate in Academic Department initiatives.
  • Act as a liaison between the TCS Education System and So Cal faculty and students, and library staff.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated successful leadership, interpersonal and supervisory skills working with a diverse population
  • Strong public service orientation and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Effective problem solving, analytical and organizational skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to prepare and manage a budget
  • Knowledge of collection development, acquisitions, cataloging, database management, library
  • instruction and information literacy, public and technical services, interlibrary loan, reference
  • Employ management techniques effectively in directing, planning, organizing, staffing, coordinating, budgeting, and evaluating the library’s operation
  • Ability to organize job duties and work independently

Position Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science
  • 3-5 years’ experience in an academic library with supervision responsibilities
