The Pollak Library at California State University, Fullerton invites applications for a tenure-track Open Educational Resources Librarian to join our dedicated community of librarians, staff, and student assistants. The Library
We serve a total of more than 40,000 students as well as approximately 4,000 faculty and staff. Our website (http://www.library.fullerton.edu) is a vital component of the Library’s extensive instruction program and serves as a gateway to resources: including 1.3 million books, government documents, and audiovisual materials; over 50,000 periodicals available electronically or in print; and 200 electronic databases. The staff includes 23 FTE librarians, 35 FTE paraprofessionals, and 80 student assistants.

Position
California State University Fullerton (CSUF) Pollak Library is seeking a librarian who is innovative, technologically adept, and service-oriented to lead the Library’s existing and growing participation in the University’s Open and Affordable Education initiatives. The Open Educational Resources (OER) Librarian will work closely with the Director of Online Education and Training and partner with librarians, faculty, and instructional designers to identify, create, adapt, and adopt open and affordable course content at the course and program level to accommodate the evolving learning, teaching, and research needs of the diverse CSUF community. In collaboration with the Scholarly Communications Librarian, the OER Librarian will contribute actively to the overall scholarly communications program, which includes open access, author rights, scholarly publishing, data management, and repositories. This position—newly created in response to Pollak Library’s recent re-organization, self-assessment, and strategic plan—will have the opportunity to be creative and innovative in Library OER initiatives and in building a library for the 21st century. The position also assists with Library Public Services.

Librarians at CSUF have faculty status and are expected to meet promotion and tenure requirements, including scholarly and professional activities.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership, vision, and support for the University Library’s Open Educational Resources initiatives in collaboration with campus, CSU, and other stakeholders.
  • Guides faculty in the discovery, creation, dissemination, identification, adoption, and assessment of open and affordable course content.
  • Creates OER-related instructional resources, including webpages, guides, learning objects, and workshops on open and affordable course content.
  • Participates actively in discussions related to open and affordable course content to ensure open communication and collaboration with relevant university units.
  • Partners with subject librarians to support the development of instructional and outreach materials related to open and affordable course content.
  • Identifies Library-purchased resources that would have a high impact on learning affordability and student success and may recommend similar purchases.
  • Works collaboratively with Public Service Librarians to provide reference, instruction, and assessment.
  • Participates in Library committees as needed or assigned and has the opportunity to participate in CSUF and CSU committees and taskforces.
  • Pursues professional development to keep current on trends and developments in open and affordable education options and their relationship to scholarly publishing, pedagogy, and information literacy.

Qualifications
Required

  • Master’s degree in library and/or information science from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent institution by the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with developments, resources, and services related to open and affordable course content, open access, open licensing, and copyright.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to work both independently and collegially on a team in a demanding and rapidly changing environment.
  • Well-developed analytical, organizational, and communication skills (oral, written, and interpersonal).
  • Evidence of interest in professional and scholarly activities.
  • Ability to interact effectively in a multicultural environment with co-workers, library users, and the wider campus community.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with copyright law, open licensing options, fair use, author rights, archiving rights, institutional repositories, scholarly publishing, and related issues
  • Additional training and/or experience in Education, Instructional Design, or related field
  • Experience or interest in working with learning management systems
  • Awareness of accessibility requirements for websites and digital sources.
  • Familiarity with California legislation related to OERs (e.g., SB 1359, AB 798, SB 1053)
  • Awareness of the potential impact of emerging development in scholarly publishing (e.g., OA2020, Plan S, Controlled Digital Lending).

Rank & Salary
The position will be at the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian. Salary range will be from $67,656 to $72,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Excellent comprehensive benefits are available and include health/vision/dental plans, optional 10/12 month work year; defined-benefit retirement through the state system, along with optional tax-sheltering opportunities, as well as access to campus child-care, based on availability of openings.
