Reports To: Director of Information Access Services

Summary:

The Research Librarian will serve at one of the Information Access Services desks full time, as assigned. The individual will serve as bibliographic resource guide for students, faculty, and other patrons, including teaching the use of digital library resources. It will be the responsibility of this individual to provide Information Access Services to both English and Korean-language patrons.

Essential Functions:

•Provide hospitality to library patrons and visitors at one of the Information Access Services desks

•Serve as a bibliographic resource guide for students, faculty, and other patrons on the Pasadena campus of Fuller Theological Seminary, by assisting them to locate needed information, including digital library resources; and the teaching of library use skills to patrons

•Using e-mail, blogging, IM, and other social media, to serve as a bibliographic resource guide for students, faculty, and other patrons, at Fuller Theological Seminary regional campuses and online programs

•Participate in a national 24/7 Information Access Network as assigned by the supervisor;

•Develop finding aids and precise subject bibliographies in the form of InfoGuides where appropriate as assigned by the supervisor

•Identify research materials needed by thesis and dissertation students

•Cooperate with Inter-Library Loan Services in assisting patrons to locate materials not owned by Fuller Theological Seminary

•Refer patrons to appropriate Librarians for retrieval of limited access materials

•Refer patrons to other Librarians when subject specializations of those librarians can be helpful to patrons

•Be available to teach as requested course segments in “Resources, Methods Research Design” in English and Korean, as assigned by the supervisor

•Maintain the Reading Rooms, including shelving of material as needed

•Advise the Director of Information Access Services regarding items (including all media) to be considered for addition or removal from the Reference Collection

•Advise the Director of Information Access Services regarding items (including all media) to be considered for addition to the Korean Language Collections

•Maintain a cordial collegial relationship with other Information Access Services staff as well as other Library Staff

•Scholarly publication in one’s own specialty is encouraged

•Other tasks related to Library functions as assigned by the supervisor

Knowledge & Skills Requirements:

•A Master of Library Science (M.L.I.S.) from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent experience is required

•A Master’s degree (M.Div. or M.A.) in Theology, Intercultural Studies or Psychology is required

•A Ph.D. in a theological discipline is preferred

•3-4 years of professional library reference services experience

•1-2 years of customer service experience

•Fluent in English and Korean (spoken and written)

•Expertise in research design, database searching expertise, editorial experience, word processing skills (Word for Windows); accounting skills and the capacity to manage multiple tasks.

•Knowledge of LibGuides, Library knowledgebase software, and social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc.)

•The ability to work well as part of a team
