Position Title Librarian

Introduction
The Los Angeles Community College District announces an opening for a tenure track Librarian at Los Angeles Mission College (LAMC), a two-year community college that serves more than 11,000 students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. The College is one of nine in the Los Angeles Community College District. Founded in 1975, LAMC is located in Sylmar and has strong historical ties to the neighboring communities of San Fernando, Pacoima, Mission Hills, North Hills, Panorama City and Granada Hills. In recent years, the institution’s enrollment base has expanded to include many of the communities throughout the greater-San Fernando Valley, as well as Canyon Country and Santa Clarita. The College provides excellent transfer, basic skills, transitional and career education programs. Job Description
The Los Angeles Mission College Library is seeking an experienced librarian who has a passion for teaching, can develop ties to the diverse campus community, and assist in the growth of the library instruction program and services. The Library provides the college community with access to organized collections and information, supports instruction, and in collaboration with other academic programs, encourages and facilitates information competency and critical thinking skills in all students. The department prides itself as an innovative and collaborative group of faculty and staff who strive to provide library services that support faculty, curriculum, and student success. • Active, inclusive learning environments and curricula that welcome and engage all students, incorporating instructional technologies, as appropriate, to improve student learning

• Self-reflection on his or her teaching, leadership, professional development, and service to the campus community

Minimum Qualifications
 Masters in Library Science, Library Information Science from an American Library Association accredited school.

Eligibility
Duties and Responsibilities
• Develop, market, coordinate, and teach a dynamic library instruction program utilizing a variety of teaching strategies.

• Collaborate with faculty to develop assignments that will reinforce information competency skills.

• Provide library reference services that encourage students to be critical thinkers and lifelong learners.

• Increase students’ and faculty knowledge of library resources, including web-based instruction.

• Assist in developing student learning outcomes and assessments.

• Assist in assessing and improving library services.

• Effectively communicate in English, orally and in writing.

• Work a flexible schedule, which may include some evening and weekend duties.

• Participate in campus shared governance and department and college initiatives.

• Perform other duties as assigned to ensure that effective library services and learning environments for students are maintained.

• Perform other contractual duties.

Desired Qualifications
• One year experience teaching at the community college level.

• One year experience providing reference services in a community college library.

• Experience in developing library and information competency curriculum and programs that are responsive to student and faculty needs.

• Sensitivity and ability to work with students having diverse backgrounds, skills and needs.

• Academic training or experience in assessing library services.

• Team oriented, flexible, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.

• Knowledge of online course management systems, presentation, and screen recording and editing software.

• Experience using computer technology and software in providing reference services and high-quality instruction.

• Willingness to participate in professional development, stay current with library trends, and utilize new technology.

• Multi-cultural experience and/or fluency in an additional language.

• Experience in grant writing.

• Willingness to accept varied responsibilities within the library and college.

Salary and Benefits
This is a 10-month, 30-hour-per-week tenure-track faculty position. The beginning salary range of $47,600 to $74,110 is commensurate with academic preparation and experience. The doctoral differential is $3,000 per academic year. District benefits include health, dental, vision insurance for the employee and eligible dependents and term life insurance for the employee.
