Processing Archivist, UC Santa Cruz

The University Library at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a Processing Archivist. Under the direction of the Supervisory Archivist, the Processing Archivist will work collaboratively within the department to arrange and describe archival collections of varying formats, including born-digital, audiovisual, photographic, and paper materials. The Processing Archivist provides excellent service to users by promoting and facilitating access to collections through archival processing and by providing regular service on the Special Collections Reference Desk and remote reference services when necessary.

The Processing Archivist employs archival standards and best practices to survey, arrange, describe, and preserve a wide variety of archival collections. The Archivist is responsible for using Guidelines for Efficient Archival Processing in the University of California Libraries to create EAD-encoded, DACS-compliant finding aids for these collections in ArchivesSpace that will be accessible to the public via the Online Archive of California. The Processing Archivist works with undergraduate student assistants in delegating processing tasks.

Under the general direction of the Director of User Services & Resource Sharing, the incumbent provides management, oversight, and coordination of the Interlibrary Loan Unit, as well as leadership within the larger User Services & Resource Sharing Department. This position has broad responsibility for ensuring that Interlibrary Loan staff provides effective and positive public service. The incumbent is required to have extensive knowledge of Interlibrary Loan principles and procedures and an expert level of functional expertise. This position represents the library locally, by working public service desk shifts, and UC-wide, by serving on groups within the UC Libraries Advisory structure. Metadata Services (MS) connects our UC San Diego community to intellectual and creative content and materials by analyzing, describing and organizing resources using methods and systems that promote discovery. MS provides, augments and normalizes metadata for digitized and born digital objects and for tangible resources— particularly collections of distinction for which UC San Diego is known. MS delivers and manages bibliographic access to licensed and open access electronic resources in all formats. The program includes approximately 33 FTE staff. This position will be part of the Music and Media Metadata Unit, which specializes in providing metadata for digital and tangible materials in audio, moving image and notated music formats, and focuses on the specialized requirements of these materials. This position will also provide cataloging for books on an as needed basis working in collaboration with the Books and Serials Metadata Unit.

Project Archivist, California Agricultural Resources Archive, UC Merced

The University of California, Merced Library is recruiting a 12-month project archivist to collect, curate, and promote use of the UC Cooperative Extension archives, part of the California Agricultural Resources Archive (CARA). CARA brings together information resources that detail the role, work, research findings, and impact of UC Cooperative Extension in the development of agriculture over the last century. In 2018, the Library received a Major Initiatives Grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission to support this work and aims to document and digitize records from up to 20 counties over the three-year grant period.
