Reporting to the Dean of Academic Support and Learning Technologies, the Director of Learning Commons has primary responsibility to fulfill the college mission by serving our diverse communities through engagement, collaboration, partnerships, innovation, and leadership to integrate library, learning center, and other academic support services. The Director provides vision, leadership, and management in developing innovative services and integration of technology in library, tutoring, supplemental instruction, and related student success functions. Public contact is extensive and involves staff, faculty, and administrators at all levels within the college; other educational institutions; governmental, funding, and compliance agencies; students; and the general public for the purpose of exchanging information and public relations. A high degree of independent judgment and creativity are required to select and analyze data in order to draw conclusions, make original recommendations, write reports, and to resolve a variety of minor and potentially major problems that occur. The Director of Learning Commons can supervise, assess, train, and develop faculty and staff so they can provide exemplary service that focuses on student success.

Part-Time Reference and Instruction Librarian

As the center of campus intellectual discovery, the Sacramento State University Library promotes teaching, learning, research, and scholarly communication at the University by integrating the Library with campus student success programs and instruction. Sacramento State University seeks a creative and dynamic librarian for a part-time appointment for the Spring 2017 semester. The successful candidate will report to the Head of the Reference & Instruction Department, where they will provide library instruction service to freshmen and newly transferred students, as well as reference support to the entire university community.

This is a term-limited position with up to 20 hours/week for spring 2017.

  •  Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, or related degree from an institution accredited by the American Library Association required.
  • Current Driver’s license

User Engagement and Outreach Librarian

The University Library seeks a dynamic, service-oriented, culturally sensitive, and knowledgeable librarian to join the library faculty as a User Engagement and Outreach Librarian. This is a tenure-track, twelve-month position. Library faculty report to the Dean of Library Services.

Faculty librarians serve as liaisons to academic departments for collection development and library outreach, and participate in library and University faculty governance. To be recommended for tenure and promotion, library faculty must demonstrate proficiency in the areas of librarianship; research, scholarship and/or creative activities; and participation in University affairs.

The User Engagement and Outreach Librarian will provide leadership for the development of strategies, partnerships and initiatives to enhance student knowledge of library research and discovery skills in order to increase student success. Additionally, the incumbent will conduct outreach to campus and student services units and build partnerships, becoming part of the active campus network of services promoting student success.
