Instruction and Reference Librarian, Holy Names University

Holy Names University is seeking an energetic and innovative Instruction and Reference Librarian to participate in our information literacy program and campus outreach, work collaboratively on digital library initiatives, service improvements, collection development, and provide stellar reference service.

The Librarian for Research & Instruction cultivates and maintains strong collaborative relationships with teaching faculty; maintains an understanding of the university’s research and teaching programs; promotes library activities within the HNU community; and collaborates on campus-centered and university-wide cooperative initiatives to deliver timely and effective services.

Major activities conducted by the Librarian for Research & Instruction include planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating appropriate educational and research support services. Further responsibilities for this position include enhancing the library’s existing outreach initiatives and expanding information literacy instruction; providing students information research consultation services; developing new initiatives and partnerships to further student success in degree completion and for lifelong learning; overseeing the development of web pages, tutorials, and/or other online tools in support of teaching strategies.

The incumbent’s duties also include preparing reports and analyses regarding ongoing services and special projects, including the generation and interpretation of data that inform decisions and demonstrate the Library’s value to the HNU community and beyond.

The ILL & Access Services Services Supervisor, under the supervision of Manager, Interlibrary Loan, obtains published material (books, dissertations, and journal articles) not available in the University Library or Heafey Law Library collections for Santa Clara University students, faculty and staff in order to facilitate their educational and research needs. The ILL & Access Services Services Supervisor also provides excellent library and information service at the Library Help Desk in support of the University’s academic programs as outlined in the University Library’s Strategic Plan. Performs specialized duties requiring broad knowledge of general library operations and/or materials, and specific library policies and procedures in a diverse work environment. Delivers accurate, timely, and courteous service that respects individual needs and strengthens the educational experience. Participates in planning and accomplishing the goals of Access & Delivery Services. Duties include student training and supervision. The primary schedule is Thursday-Monday, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Adjustments in this schedule will be required as a function of the academic calendar, e.g., intersession, summer hours etc.

Access & Delivery Services, Santa Clara University

Santa Clara University Library is seeking a part-time, temporary staff member in Access & Delivery Services. Up to 20 hours per week are available, and hours are flexible based on availability. The position, available mid-September, includes these duties:

  • Staffs the Library Help Desk during scheduled hours.
  • Assists patrons in locating materials in the library using OSCAR (the University’s online catalog)
  • Provides courteous directional and informational assistance and simple reference assistance to users, requiring a general knowledge of the library’s physical facility, organization, collections and policies
  • Refers complex questions to the appropriate individual
  • Uses the automated library system (OSCAR) to circulate materials (checkout, check-in, place holds, etc.) to members of the Santa Clara University community
  • Recommends searches and/or LINK+ or Interlibrary Loan requests for missing library materials
  • Educates users about new or enhanced services provided by the library
  • Provides information on specific library policies, including billing and circulation privileges
  • Supervises, trains, and manages library student workers, directing their work and ensuring the work of the library (sorting, shelving, shelf reading, auditing ARS, etc) is completed during work shifts
  • Opens/closes and secures the library as needed.

The position is available beginning September 16, 2017 and may extend for as long as six months. Hiring will be done through a temporary agency. Persons with some library experience at a circulation/help desk preferred. Salary is approximately $20.65 per hour. Opportunity: Library Systems Specialist

Overview:

The JPL Library, Archives and Records Section is seeking an innovative, customer-oriented, and forward thinking group member with the flexibility to work with a variety of platforms and administrative modules for library-related software and hardware applications. This person will work in the middle space between library end users and other customers, library staff, application vendors and JPL IT staff to ensure timely and effective delivery of applications.

The Library Systems and Services staff member’s work will include interactions with software and hardware vendors on training, user interface construction, and ongoing improvement to services with end users and with colleagues throughout the Laboratory organization to ensure the most accessible and usable book, journal, citation analysis, borrowing, and other applications. The Systems and Services staff member will serve on cross-Laboratory teams in relevant IT and services areas.

Reporting to the Library Group Supervisor, the Systems and Services staff member can expect a good deal of autonomy in setting up and maintaining systems that help deliver the Library’s resources, but will be expected to provide analyses and metrics on systems and improvements. This person will also serve as part of the Library team and will be expected to perform circulation, interlibrary loan, reference, and other tasks.

Temporary instruction/reference Librarian, CSU San Marcos

The California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) Library seeks a full-time Library faculty within the Teaching & Learning (TAL) program for the academic year 2017/18. This position will provide information literacy instruction to first year experience and general education courses, provide reference/research help at the Library’s Research Help Desk (both in person and virtually), participate in and attend Library faculty meetings. Some instruction and on-call research help hours will be scheduled for evenings and weekends. Other instructional and/or reference/research help duties and projects may be assigned.

Minimum requirements for the position include:

  • MLS from an ALA-accredited or equivalent before start date.
  • Experience providing reference and instruction in an academic library.
  • Evidence of competency or experience with instructionally-related technologies.
  • High level of self-motivation, enthusiasm and flexibility.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with colleagues, students, faculty, and staff.

Preferred qualifications for the position include:

  • Experience working with first-year college students.
  • Recent experience providing reference and instruction in an academic library.
