Merced College is a midsized community college located in California’s Central Valley. Founded in 1962, the college serves more than 16,000 students with room to expand on its 267 acre main campus and 120 acre Los Banos site. Merced, incorporated in 1889, offers historical sites, affordable housing, access to the Bay Area and Sacramento, and is the Gateway to Yosemite National Park and the Sierra mountains as well as home to the University of California Merced campus. The Learning Resources Center (LRC) is the home of the Merced College Library. The LRC provides research and instructional resources for Merced College students, faculty, staff and administration. Our big bright library is one of the most dynamic and inviting areas on campus with 64+ computers, lots of study rooms, meeting rooms, lots of quiet study space and a dedicated library instruction room. As part of our mission, the Library provides instructional materials and media to support the curriculum of the college and provides for the research and instructional needs of our students in collaboration with discipline faculty. We have an active reference desk and lots of opportunities to be part of the college community. Distance Education is part of the LRC and we are extending our online education including OER and other new instructional technologies. The Library
We serve a total of more than 40,000 students as well as approximately 4,000 faculty and staff. Our website (http://www.library.fullerton.edu) is a vital component of the Library’s extensive instruction program and serves as a gateway to resources: including 1.3 million books, government documents, and audiovisual materials; over 50,000 periodicals available electronically or in print; and 200 electronic databases. The staff includes 23 FTE librarians, 35 FTE paraprofessionals, and 80 student assistants.

Position
California State University Fullerton (CSUF) Pollak Library is seeking a librarian who is innovative, technologically adept, and service-oriented to lead the Library’s existing and growing participation in the University’s Open and Affordable Education initiatives. The Open Educational Resources (OER) Librarian will work closely with the Director of Online Education and Training and partner with librarians, faculty, and instructional designers to identify, create, adapt, and adopt open and affordable course content at the course and program level to accommodate the evolving learning, teaching, and research needs of the diverse CSUF community. In collaboration with the Scholarly Communications Librarian, the OER Librarian will contribute actively to the overall scholarly communications program, which includes open access, author rights, scholarly publishing, data management, and repositories. This position—newly created in response to Pollak Library’s recent re-organization, self-assessment, and strategic plan—will have the opportunity to be creative and innovative in Library OER initiatives and in building a library for the 21st century. The position also assists with Library Public Services.

  • Collaborate with faculty and teach information literacy skills. Integrate the learning opportunities into their courses.
  • Provide reference/research help to the campus community and conduct library orientations for incoming students and new faculty and staff members.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate records of reference and instruction activities, analyze collected data, and write reports.
  • Create and maintain LibGuides related to the graduate program’s coursework specifically and to information literacy skills in general.
  • Review syllabi and communicate with professors to recommend new resources to be added to the library collection in order to meet the changing needs of the campus community.
  • Stay informed of changes made to library databases, collections, and services; and promote these resources to the campus community by writing monthly articles for SUA Today on behalf of the library, posting announcements on the library’s Facebook page, and participating in the library’s annual cafeteria outreach event.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Collections and Metadata Librarian oversees several functional areas of library services: Sierra oversight and record quality control, resource inventory, preservation and circulation control, interlibrary loan, and cataloging, with some supervisory responsibilities. The position monitors, analyzes, and develops efficient and effective workflows; communicates with other library partners, and vendors; and has overall responsibility for data and statistics for the unit.
