The successful candidate will be proficient in cataloging and have experience with original cataloging. This position is within the Acquisitions, Collection Management, and Evaluation (ACME ) unit of the Meriam Library and serves as the work lead for one full-time staff member. Working independently, under general direction, the Cataloging & ERM Assistant Librarian is part of the library faculty and is responsible for overseeing the daily operations for cataloging and electronic resource management. This is a lead position, providing work direction for cataloging staff and working as part of the ACME team.

The Library
We serve a total of more than 40,000 students as well as approximately 4,000 faculty and staff. Our website (http://www.library.fullerton.edu) is a vital component of the Library’s extensive instruction program and serves as a gateway to resources: including 1.3 million books, government documents, and audiovisual materials; over 50,000 periodicals available electronically or in print; and 200 electronic databases. The staff includes around 23 FTE librarians, 35 FTE paraprofessionals, and 80 student assistants.

Position
As a member of Reference and Instruction, the Online Learning Librarian takes the leadership role in developing and assessing the library’s online information literacy initiatives that promote student-centered learning, critical and creative thinking as well as uses technologies and software tools such as learning management systems, content tools and presentation tools. The OL Librarian will implement and administer tools, features, and programs that enhance and improve library instruction in the online environment. The OL librarian will represent the Library in online teaching with technology initiatives across campus. This position—newly created in response to Pollak Library’s recent re-organization, self-assessment, and strategic plan—will have the opportunity to be creative and innovative in building a library for the 21st century.

Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Instructional Support — Creates, evaluates, and updates instructional materials/learning objects in a variety of formats. Ensures materials are current, effective, and accessible.
  • Administration — Administers online tools used for instruction and reference purposes (e.g. LibApps) to ensure that software functionality is optimized and user access is managed. Creates documentation to support use of these tools. Coordinates scheduling of instruction sessions, workshops, and events.
  • Assessment — Gathers, analyzes, and summarizes data for reporting, decision-making, and advocacy purposes. Evaluates and recommends new processes and tools to improve existing workflows related to instruction and reference services.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in related area and five years of progressively responsible related experience OR Master’s degree in related area and three years of progressively responsible related experience or equivalent experience and training.
