Saint Mary’s College of California Library is seeking an experienced, energetic, and innovative librarian to serve the Kalmanovitz School of Education. This twelve-month, non-tenure track appointment is planned at the Associate Librarian level.

 

The Kalmanovitz School of Education offers primarily graduate-level instruction in 16 programs in counseling, education, and leadership. Degrees include a BA in Leadership, numerous masters and credential programs, and the EdD in Educational Leadership. We are looking for someone with a strong grounding in the teaching profession and/or education curriculum (credential process, pedagogical methods, etc.) and who enjoys teaching information literacy. The Education Librarian teaches embedded information literacy/research skills sessions nights and weekends since many of the programs serve working adult learners. The position also oversees the Library’s children’s literature collection and the test collection used by the counseling and school psychology programs.

 

The Education Librarian will serve on the General Reference Desk, participate in the Library’s team structure, serve on campus committees, and be professionally active.

eLearning Librarian – Western University of Health Sciences

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Reference & Outreach, and in collaboration with Library and campus staff and faculty, the eLearning Librarian will lead the Library’s initiative in developing, implementing, and assessing online learning tools, resources, and services. This position will also provide reference help to Library patrons.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The Reference & Outreach Department is seeking an enthusiastic, patient, and flexible eLearning Librarian to join our team.
The ideal candidate will be eager to:
1. Use current technologies and tools to create and deliver innovative online learning experiences
2. Look outside the Library world for technologies, tools, and methods to turn into new Library services
3. Share his/her knowledge of instructional technology and tools with others
4. Collaborate with individuals and groups within and across organizational boundaries to bolster and advertise the Library’s services and resources for distance and online students
5. Provide reference services in all formats (in-person, virtual, synchronous, asynchronous) in a lively and supportive academic environment

Required Qualifications
1. Master’s degree in one of the following: Library/Information Science, Media, Instructional Technology, or another related field
2. Experience with technologies and tools to create and deliver digital learning objects
3. Demonstrated ability to learn new technology, tools, and skills
4. Strong desire to share knowledge with others
5. Demonstrated ability to work collegially and cooperatively within and across organizational boundaries

Preferred Qualifications
1. Understanding of instructional design principles in an online environment and/or experience, coursework, or additional degree in instructional design
2. Knowledge of accessibility and universal design principles
3. Experience in online teaching/instruction, preferably at the graduate level
4. Demonstrated ability in using web based tools, imaging and/or video software, and relevant emerging technologies
5. Experience providing reference services in an academic environment, preferably to graduate students
6. Knowledge of medical terminology and/or coursework, additional degree, or specialty in health sciences

May be required to work evenings and/or weekends.

Assistant Reference Librarian (part time) – Western University of Health Sciences

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Reference & Outreach, this position will provide support to the department through both reference and instruction duties. The Assistant Reference Librarian will be responsible for meeting the basic reference needs of patrons both in-person and virtually, and providing instruction support to the education services librarian, focusing primarily in the areas of instruction preparation and grading.

Master’s degree in library and information science from an American Library Association accredited school and/or 2-3 years of library experience.
Experience and/or coursework in instructional design.
Specialty in science or health sciences.

This is a part-time position for daytime and Saturday shifts. Occasional evening hours may be required.

Library Access Services Department Head and Subject Specialist Librarian – Saint Mary’s College of California

Saint Mary’s College is a Catholic liberal arts college, rooted in the life and work of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, founder of the Christian Brothers and the patron saint of teachers.  Located in the hills east of Berkeley, it is one of the West’s most beautiful campuses.  The college is committed to academic excellence, social justice, and inclusive diversity.

As a member of the Library’s senior management team reporting to the Dean, Academic Resources, the incumbent will lead and manage the Library’s Access Services Department and provide reference, instruction, and collection/liaison services.

Access Services provides user-centered services to the SMC community including circulation, reserves, interlibrary lending and borrowing, and building and stacks management.  Staff includes 4 supervisors and about 10FTE student staff.  Serves on the Dean’s Cabinet leadership team and campus committees. Represents the Library with diverse campus and external stakeholders.

Provides Reference Desk service, including weekends and evenings, and serves as a subject specialist for collection development, research instruction and outreach to one or more academic departments or programs (to be determined).

Requirements:

MLS or MLIS required. Prefer a second master’s or an advanced degree.

Five years academic library experience with at least three years increasingly responsible management experience.

Solid experience with automated systems supporting Access Services.

Experience hiring, evaluating, training and mentoring both career staff and student workers.

All part-time faculty appointments are temporary and do not confer academic rank.

Anticipated needs: Full-time and part-time temporary librarian positions (Assistant Librarian Rank) in the Research, Instruction & Outreach Services Department. Appointments by semester. May include evening and/or weekend hours.

Current Salary Range: Dependent upon experience and qualifications.

Qualifications Minimum: Graduate degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited school, or equivalent degree if granted from outside the United States or Canada.

Required: Demonstrated reference desk service proficiency, preferably in a busy academic library, and enthusiasm for library instruction. Demonstrated ability and commitment to work with a diverse campus community. Desirable: Library instruction or teaching experience; experience with electronic resources and applications such as online indexing systems, internet, an integrated library system, and web page development. Strong service commitment; excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; and knowledge of current trends and issues in academic librarianship. Willingness to serve as needed in a range of library duties, which may include reference and instructional services to a specific subject discipline or program area within the Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, Education, or Physical or Life Sciences, as well as lower division composition courses. Assigned duties may include the development of online access or finding tools. Also desirable is experience in creating learning objects to be embedded within Learning Management Systems, such as Moodle.

In support of its service and information literacy mission, the Oviatt Library at California State University, Northridge, seeks a service-oriented, forward-thinking, and energetic librarian to participate in all aspects of library reference/research consultation services, both in-person and electronic, in a dynamic learning commons environment. Depending on background, the Research and Instruction Librarian will provide general and/or discipline-specific library and information literacy instructional services, both in-person and online. The successful candidate will develop discipline-specific online research guides and/or digital learning objects in support of student research needs. In collaboration with other library faculty and administrators, this position will assess the usage, satisfaction with, and impact on student learning of library services, with the purpose of informing programmatic planning related to research and instructional technology. Additionally, this position will collaborate on information literacy assessment projects to further the understanding of the library’s impact on student learning outcomes. Depending on interest and/or background, this position also will participate in liaison and collection development activities for one or more disciplines within the social sciences, humanities, sciences, or health sciences (to be determined). This is a 12-month, full-time tenure-track faculty position, with attendant expectations for professional competence, service and scholarship. Some evening and weekend work is required.
